I Need your Help Pionus Owners!
I know some about pionus parrots but I have not worked with them one on one enough to become an expert on their body language and tendancies. I have heard that they are a bit more adaptable and quiet compared to some other parrots. Still, I have no idea about specific body language with pionus and I am preparing to give a presentation on body language for our bird club. I need your help.
I need photos of your pionus displaying obvious body language. Lunging tail fanning (Pionus don't do this, do they?) Eye pinning (again...no idea...???) lovey postures (Do they bow and fluff their head feathers for a rub?...where do they like to be preened?) Do they make lovey noises while being preened? are they considered really "beaky" birds? (Do they commonly "test" a hand for stability when stepping up?) Do they nip frequently? What are signs of overstimulation? Threatened body language curious body language Relaxed body language Anything else you can come up with Vocalizations when angry, happy, playful, etc. Please try to take photos in natural sunlight so that pictures are clear and take them as up close as possible. Please specify and describe in detail the body language that your parrot is displaying. If anyone lives in the Albuquerque area and would be willing to let me borrow your pionus for some observation, please PM me! Thanks a bunch! -Anna

Sorry, don't really have any photos, but my pi gets puffy when she's angry/upset and likely to bite. (Unlike my sun, who flattens his feathers to his body). She's not nippy, and she almost never bites ... me. (She will bite strangers.) Compared to my sun, she is super gentle.
Other than that, there's nothing super distinguishing about her body language. I don't see her fanning her tail or pacing. She's not beaky, she steps up wonderfully. If she wants something, she'll lean towards it, like most birds. She likes to scratch her own head with her toes; she does it slowly and relishes it. Vocalization - She's not a loud bird, but when she does make loud noises it's a very loud, high-pitched shrill squeak. When she's begging for attention, she makes a sound that sounds a bit like this: YouTube - Stella's Chittering They have a reputation for being content just hanging out and observing, but Mika follows me around and wants to be on whatever side of the room I'm on.
