My baby has arrived!

crispin.jpg
Here's Crispin whom I've been anxiously awaiting! I've never owned any other bird other than budgies and I must say I'm quite taken with him already! We've had him for about 2 weeks now and he's just starting to show his playful clownish behavior (and he follows me around like a puppy making these cute squeaky noises). Gosh I love this!
I do have some questions. I've been trying to paper train him. I know it takes a long time for some birds and we've only just begun. My question is...is it really possible for a Pionus to paper train? He just seems so unaware even though I make a big stink out of it (act excited and praise him after I say the command before he goes etc.) What do you folk think about those flight suits? This is the only training I've been working on besides "up" which he's very good about. Any other suggestions on what I can do to strengthen our relationship? Pionus are so sweet and easy going I almost feel at a loss as to what to do with him! :)

Congratulations!!!! He's absolutely adorable!!! I don't know about pionus but my eclectus was very easy to potty train. He was a fast learner. He could sense I didn't like being pooped on and pretty much took his cue from that. I would give him time. My amazon took longer to even recognize that she was pooping. She has been pretty well trained since she was one. She isn't as good about flying to a cage or perch to potty as he is but she's only had one accident on me in the last 2 years. I paper trained my nanday conure too but she was an adult when I did it. I would suggest that you keep doing what you are doing and enjoy your baby. If you do decide to try a flight suit, I recommend beginning training as soon as possible. It's so much easier on a young baby than an older bird.
