Pionus Volume?
Hi Guys,
I am really interested in a Bronze Winged Pionus, but I am concerned about noise. I know they are touted as the quiet parrot, but I need honest experiences here. I have two lovies, which of course can be very loud, and I want to know how Pi's stack against lovies. Any insight. |

I have a white capped pionus and she can scream. Mostly when she wants attention. She probably learned this scream from my WB caique but my princess of wales is even louder then the pionus. Tho the Pionus make the cutest noises and are mostly quiet. The Pionus are such a sweet laid back species. Good luck!

Ok, I'll ease your fears LOL! I have a white capped, who cleverly disguises her loud TWEET with my hahn's yelling. He yells a bit, and she doesn't always chime in.
Before I got the hahn's my pionus was my only bird. To be quite honest, it was like I didn't even own a bird, she was so quiet. The first sounds you hear on this vid is my White Capped. She's only doing it cause of the dogs in the yard. That's as loud as she gets.

My Pi is only loud when my sun conure is yelling. I think she's saying "owww, my ears hurt. Make him stop!". I think if it wasn't for him, she'd be incredibly quiet (and even when she's yelling, she's nowhere near as loud as he is). Sure, she'll let out an occasional squeak, but it's not a bad sound at all, and she's *capable* of a pretty shrill scream, but that's pretty rare. As parrots go, Pis are very mellow, and I recommend them for people looking for a quiet medium-sized bird.

I have a WC Pionus and for the most part she is very quiet. She has a high pitched scream that she will make when I leave the room for too long, but that's about it. However, my friend has a BW and he is one of the loudest birds I run into. He has moments where he is so loud you can't stand to be in the same room as him. She believes that her black capped conure taught him to be this loud.

I rescued a pi. It was very quiet and made the CUTEST little sounds. It would also softely mumble under its breath. It was endearing. I never heard it make a loud noise, but that maybe because he was in a new home situation. I thought it was the best bird, but had my hands full with my two parrots, so I gave it to a bird rescue who found it a good home.

Pionus volume?
OK, let's be honest here folks, parrots scream!!!! It all depends on your tolerance level. Pionus are said to be quiet apartment birds, my blue head could get us thrown out. He especially screamed when he played with his bell or the other birds started. I'd say this happened about 3-4 times a day.
I had alittle brown head I just adored, she has since passed. She had a most tolerable scream if you would even call it that. She could talk up a storm. Never pass up a brown head. |

I had a BW Pi once.. and she was a great bird. I'd highly recommend getting one. She was much more calm and quiet than my Suns or Nandays. I also miss that musky Pi "smell" too.
I'd trade all the conures in my house for another Pi, but my kids won't let me :( |
