Both birds are so similar that their minor differences could be ignored. Most people say that Sennies are bolder and Meyer’s are more reserved, but I’ve heard the opposite from some people.
My recommendation is that you go and interact with both birds and see which one connects with you more and says something special to your heart. If you have the chance to interact with some adults, that may help you with your choice too. Just remember that every bird will demonstrate its own unique personality and behavior that may be identical or quite different than what you have been led to expect. Good luck. |

i breed both meyers and sennies, both are wonderful birds. my personal fave out of the two is the meyers though. the main difference between meyers and sennies is that meyers will go to anyone, and around the time they mature, most sennies will choose a favortite person and can be really grouchy to other people. some sennies dont stay super friendly and cuddly when they mature. when meyers mature, they will stay the way they were when they are babies, cuddly and sweet to everyone. it just depends on you. if you are alone, or your significant other, or your friends, dont wanna handle your bird, i would say go ahead and go for a sennie. if you always have people come over to your place and they like to play with your birds, i would say go for a meyers. our meyers babies are the most social birds ever, they LOVE humans, even complete strangers, and they always jump from person to person to say hello and get some lovin's or treats. our sennies seem to be a tiny bit more nervous around strangers, but just fine with us. The sennies will not usually run to strangers to get attention the way our meyers do.
whatever you decide, make sure you buy from someone who really knows what they are doing wtih pio babies. they need alot of handling when they are very young, or they will grow up to be fearful and even aggressive. but raise them properly and they are the best pet birds you could ask for :) |

Being a Poi keeper also, I agree with birdsnreps - for the most part.
I personally would choose a Meyers over a Sennie - from my experiences with both. Now, if ya want a really cool pet bird (IMO), I now choose Caiques as one of my newest top favorites, ahead of Pois. |
