I'm not sure if this is something common for the Meyers, but my baby is the same way. Butters is almost 5 months old. He will come into the kitchen searching for me after a while. He's out of his cage the majority of the day, either on his playstand, on me or on the perches outside of his cage, but he still wants me. I think they just love to love and be loved, at least Butters seems to crave my attention. I just give it to him. Except in situations where I absolutely can't, I'll give him a new toy or snack and put him back in his cage (and close the door) until I can free my hands to go back and get him. But I make sure never to forget about him, I'm afraid I will hurt his feelings.
I could tell too at first that Butters did not like to play by himself...but I've given it a little while and now he's starting to play with his toys and such by himself. I sneak peeks of him doing it all the time now. BUT-if he catches a glimpse of me, it's all over and he wants me to hold him again...lol. I think they're just incredibly sweet and loving birds who crave our attention and affection. Just my opinion though. Post a picture of your baby! :)

a well socialized meyers should be perfectly happy to play with his toys or on a playgym on his own. they will be velcro birds if you let them, dont let him get into that habit!! make him play on his own so you wont have a problem bird later on. if possible get him a very large cage and fill it with shelves, ladders, boings, all kinds of toys, give him more than enough to keep busy all day and make him stay in there and play. do the same thing with his playgym, make it a larger one with a ton of levels and toys to play with. our meyers babies always use every inch of their cages and we teach them that they stay in their cage and play with the toys while we are busy or in another room, instead of begging or crying for us all day. then when we are not busy, we take them out and play with us each day. they have a playgym that they can play with also, its a little harder to teach them to stay on the stand, but we never leave them on the stand unattended cause they do wander around if you let them and they will hide under furniture and in any little crevice they can find, lol.

I also wanted to add that Butters didn't really start to play on his own until I started putting him back into his cage with the door closed so that he had to stay in there and couldn't wander around to find me. That is what I really feel has helped him learn to love being in his cage and play with all of his toys and stuff!

I have a 7 year old meyers, she stays put very well unless something scares her and she keeps herself very busy, she's out whenever i am home, but i also have her cage in the living room where she can see just about everything so she never has to come looking for me, when i leave she gets locked up, and when i am home, if she does jump down, she get put right back, she only comes off her cage when i say its okay.
