Senegals chewing out of Nest box

Hi Need some advice. I have a pair of Sene's that love to chew their nest box. The first time I noticed a problem was when I saw a Sene head looking at me from under the nest box. I put a new bottom on 1x10 with a piece of 1x2" wire under the new bottom. They got busy with their eggs and raising their young and no more problems, until now.
They had 3 eggs but I noticed the eggs all had dents in them and I lost all 3 good eggs. I just took the nestbox down and found they had chewed a saucer size hole in the bottom and had laid the eggs on the wire. So when they sat on the eggs they pressed them into the wire and they got dented.
Does anyone have an idea on how to stop this. I did think of putting a piece of plexi glass on the bottom, but I'm afraid of the chicks getting splayed legs.
Any ideas? thanks Joan

You could use thick playwood to build a new nestbox, or use a metal nestbox. Whichever type of nestbox you decide, you need to make sure that they have nesting material that is safe.

You might be interested in pine shavings, carefresh or another type of nesting material. STAY AWAY from corn cobb, walnut shells, cedar shavings, and cat litter.

Otherwise, buy them some 2x4's or other sized wood pieces for them to chew other than the nestbox, and make sure that they are untreated.
