I looked at a Jardines baby before we got the conures.I love their coloring.I met a two older rehomes too but they were both birds that seemed to like men only so I passed.I've read many good things about the personality of Meyers Parrots. One of our members, birdsnreps, breeds them so she can give you more in depth information.

meyers are my personal faves :) red bellies are really awesome and silly too, senegals can be really good too, but they can be a little more reserved, you really have to socialize them while they are young so they wont be one person birds. even though sennies tend to bond to one person, it is possible to have a happy, well socialized sennie if you make other people play with him and hold him often, ive sold sennies to families with kids and they do just fine as long as everyone holds them.

they are pretty much perfect little birds, not noisy, not too demanding, happy to play on their own while you are busy or gone, but there is a catch...you have to find a breeder who raises them right. while they are very young, they go through a very shy stage, and you have to give them alot of extra attention until they grow out of it. this is still while being handfed though, not after. and dont buy a non-properly socialized, fearful baby, run the other way if someone tries to sell you one like that!! its nearly impossible to work that out of the bird, even with lots of time and patience, ive seen it time and time again, and i hate hate hate it when i see babies that werent raised right :(

I'd definately say a Meyer's! But, I could be a little biased. They're great little family birds, Butters likes my whole family! They're not noisy, playful and loving! But definately find the right breeder.

Any in Cyprus ???

OK, so having done a little (ok a lot of !!!) research I have decided on either a Meyers or a Red Bellied.
Now, I have sourced a Meyers at a local pet shop but it is already 1 year old. Apparently it is a hand rear but has been in the shop for 7 months already. It shows no signs of fear when viewed from outside the cage, just a mild curiosity that someone may be paying it a little attention (how sad is that), but I am concerned that it will find it difficult to integrate into home life and interact positively with people and other pets. Choices are limited here though (I live in Cyprus) and I feel I could give it a good home if it is a salvageable bird.
What do people think ??? And does anyone know of any poicephalus breeders in Cyprus ??? Thankyou

My vote is for the cape. I am not biased though - lol
Capes are wonderful. They are smart, sweet and gentle, not noisy or demanding. They love to spend time with you but are happy to play alone in their cage. They are very forgiving of those times when life get too hectic. Ours has favorites in the family but will be handled and play with everyone in the family. I will say I do not trust him with strangers though I don't think I would trust any older bird(non-baby) with strangers. We have never had a problem. If you want to go a little larger, the cape is a great choice. They are often referred to as the "gentle giants". Bean(my cape) talks and mimics noises,he knows a few tricks and is ready to do them as soon as you pick him up. He loves to whisle and make clicking noises. My hubby whistles pop goes the weasel to him and he whistles it back.
I forgot to mention how cute they are with that great big ole beak -- good for kissing.
