Senegal and Cockatiel

Hi again all,

I'd like to hear from those that have senegals and other birds. Specifically what the senegal sounds like when he hears other birds sing, chirp, whistle, etc.

I have a cockatiel and thinking about getting a senegal. I've decided on the senegal because they are supposed to be not as noisy as some of the other parrots. My question is this, will the senegal squawk that high pitched squawd when the cockatiel sings and chirps and calls for me? I don't mind a little noise but I don't know about ear-piercing noise.

Thanks

I don't think that's a ? anyone can answer for sure. It really will all depend on the individual bird. You might have 1 senegal that makes no noise and another that might be very vocal. There's really no way to tell for sure. I would suggest trying to go visit a breeder or someone who has senegals (or any other bird that you're thinking about) and try and spend some time with them so you can get a general feel for their behaviors and noise levels. Especially when birds are concerned - everyones tolerance to the level and pitch of a bird's vocalization will be different. Even though some can handle the pitch of a sun conure or nanday - I for one can't! My green cheek and black capped don't bother me a bit - but others find them loud. So if you're really concerned about the loudness of a birds voice - please try and find some to hang out with so you can get a feel for them and know for sure whether or not you can tolerate them. It would be quite sad for you and the bird if you brought 1 home and then found out their noise level was something you couldn't live with!

I have a senegal that makes cockatiel noises. My senegal lives in my birdroom with 4 macaws,1 cockatiel.I have other birds but they live throughout my house.I have my senegal in a large parrot cage bacause Sydney can't be trusted with my other birds he/she killed a pionus and a couple of cockatiels.
Sydney has also gone after my macaws so just be careful if you have other birds don't trust them with other birds.

I asked you about having other birds in another thread before I saw this one, girlybird. Yeah, my Sennie does a PERFECT cockatiel calling and cockatiel in distress. Only louder. I have looked around the room before to make sure one of my tiels was not out of the birdroom. It has been Lukey, who is out in the living area in her own cage. She also tries to do sounds from my U2, Whiteboy. It doesn't sound exanctly like him, but you can tell that's what she is doing. She also talks up a storm. She calls, me, Nay Nay, which is what my grand daughter calls me. She says step up! and tells two different dogs to step up. She says: pretty pretty pretty pretty pretty bird, pretty Lukey, What cha doing?, Hey Nay Nay, Abbey go potty! Phoebe, and He's a good boy, (meaning Whiteboy), she does the wolf whistle, and a beep beep beep that sounds like a smoke alarm that has a low battery. There is probably more that I haven't thought of. I agree with Marcia D, you will not be able to trust your sennie with your cockatiel alone. I take Lukey around the other birds, but I have to watch her. She tries to sneak up on the finches and the canary. She has no fear and has tried to start something with my U2 before. They are characters!

My senegal can copy any birds whistle, it is amazing. Other than that she is pretty quiet unless someone pulls into the driveway, then she lets out a screech and the dogs come running. She is sweet with my husband and I but is not fond of any other birds other than our quaker. She will let him preen her and she never bothers him, but anyone else is fair game. She has no fears.
