I have a new to me Gray Headed (Cape)

I am new to birdboard and new to parrots and capes. Just adopted him - he is 3 and a charmer. I would love to hear more about yous. My guy, Harley, belonged to a friend who had no time for him so he eventually came to me. I have dogs and cats and all do well together. My cats are old and have no interest in him and the dogs seem to ignore him for the most part. They do eat the bird food he drops on the floor. Did you know that bird food gives dogs gas? So my vet said. Learn something new every day.

hi lefty! congratulations on your new addition. we are still waiting for ours to
be ready, the breeder says probably the first week of May. i would love to hear more about Harley whenever you have the opportunity, and will bore you to death with stories about ours when he arrives. We are fairly experienced "parronts" we recently lost our african grey to cancer. He was a wonderful bird and we hope that Jazz will fit our family as well .
From our research capes are supposed to be full of personality and relatively
non-aggressive. Do you find Harley that way?
If you have any general bird questions this forum is filled with people who seem to have experienced almost everything, and if there is anything i can help with i will happily ....
keep us posted

Hello! To those of you who are just getting your new capes, I am getting my first bird, a Meyer's, on Friday! Luckily for me, the days are filled with meetings and work to pass the time, although I'm finding it hard to concentrate! I look forward to getting to know you and sharing stories with you about our Poi's! Yay birds!!

What a pretty bird. I have seen pictures and read alot about them, people who have them swear they are the sweetest things. Never had the opportunity to see one up close. Congrats on Jasper... great name. Do post more pics when you able to.

bethn: Harley has a great personality. He also has a sense of humor that is great. He is a good talker and learns quickly but not necessarley what I want him to learn. He also is offen appropriate in the things he says.
The dogs were rough playing in the living room and he (Harley) shouted "KNOCK IT OFF". That was something his previous owner would say to her dogs. He also seems fearless which is something I am concerned about. He has not shown any fear or concen about my dogs or cats. He will fly down to the floor and walk around even if the come up to smell him.
It has been a fantastic experience and I will be asking a lot of questions. I can't wait until you get your baby. Do you know much about their muturing process? Is Harley fully matured at 3?

My Meyer's is actually coming from a home near here that has twin toddlers and several other birds; the mom is a bit overwhelmed and trimming down the flock a bit. I saw her ad, fell in love with the pictures, called her up, asked a ton of questions about his upbringing and personality, and upon hearing all the right answers, decided to go pick him up! He is around 3 or 4 years old. This lady is just outside of town, so between our 2 schedules tomorrow is the day. Yay! The cage and toys are also part of the bargain, so that just makes it easier. I've already started some sprouts for him, and bought all the food I need. I'm totally excited! Do you have an approximate time frame for when Jazz will be coming home? Or is it still too early to tell?

hi lefty! Harley sounds like a real charmer! It is always amazing to me when they speak appropriately, our grey was like that, very conversational, and really understood what we we saying. unfortunately he even cursed appropriately, usually when he fell off his perch doing acrobatics! I am not sure about the maturity age, it is one of the questions i have asked our breeder, she is supposed to send me more info next week, i will let you know when i find out. chat with you soon.

hi julie! Today is the day! conngratulations! I hope you had an easy move and that ? ( we need a name!) settles in easily. we are hoping for the first week in may, but nothing is written in stone, it all depends on how his eating goes and if he is able to hold his weight steady. Breeder says he is saying "night -night" when it is time for bed already. we are already smitten!
let us know how thing are going. chat with you soon.
