Congratulations on getting a Cape Parrot and the next few weeks waiting for Jasper to come home will likely pass very slowly for you. I've had the chance to interact with a few Cape's, but have never had any extended time with them. I'm sure you've already found it, but Thor's Cape Parrot Site seems to have good information on it.
Good luck when your new fid (feathered kid) comes home with you. |

Baby Cape Picture
thanks all for your responses & interest in Jasper, we did quite a bit of research prior to choosing a cape (actually I guess he is more properly called a brown neck parrot pff. there have been recent changes in classification- very confusing) . we recently lost our beloved TAG to cancer, and found we could not live without a fid in our lives. this breed seemed to fit our family best. the breeder is sending us photos, i will pass them along . pepper's pa- what a wonderful site you have produced, Pepper is adorable give him a scritch for me

congrats! I am very interested in capes as well. We chose a green cheeked conure for our first bird though. I think when we get some more experience and have a comfort level with birds, I would consider the cape for a second bird. Where did you get your bird?

cape parrot
hi all! we are waiting eagerly to hear word that jasper is fully weaned, prob-
ably another 3 weeks. our breeder says capes are not known for their love of food so it is very important that he is well and truly holding his own weight-wise. the breeder is a very small aviary, Wingnuts Aviary in Indiana. she seems to be wonderful with her babies, and thus far it has been a pleasure dealing with her. capes seem very hard to come by, other places we tried said we would have to go on the list for this fall's clutch, with those babies not being available til spring of 09 :(. just this weekend i saw one available but at almost double what we are paying. i know that over the life of the bird it would average out to not much more, but it was still a tremendous amount all at once. if you are seriously considering a cape, i would start looking around so that you might get your name on a list. susan- we are in nj as well, morris co. where are you? i laughed when i saw bailey's name, i wanted to name jasper that, but my daughter said that she would like to name a baby that, (she is currently single) so i gave it up with the hope of future grandchildren! i will keep you posted |

I thought the picture of Jasper looked familiar! I emailed Maggie about Capes before we got our gcc. She thought a cape would be a good choice for us but because we were newer bird owners and had young children, she said to get a female as they are much more tolerant and less likely to bite. I'm on her waiting list already. She sent me two pictures of this current hatch so I could see what they looked like. One pic was of your Jasper! He's just adorable. I love that smiling face. You're right Maggies seems like a great breeder. She gave me alot of good info.
