Meyers Parrot Search

I am looking for a hand-fed baby Meyers Parrot, preferably a male. I live in central NY and can't find anyone that carries them. I'm a little wary of birds that have to be shipped. My female lovebird of 11 years died of cancer this year and I'm heart-broken. Can anyone recommend a reputable breeder or bird store?

I've seen very few Meyer's Parrots available. The only places I've seen them are Bird Paradise in NJ and Bird Jungle in NY.
I think Meyer's are special birds, why have you chosen the Meyer's as the Poicephalus parrot of your choice?
Good luck in finding a Meyer's.

Meyers parrot search

Thanks for your reply. I visited your website and found it very informative, especially the section on why you chose a senegal. My reasons for choosing a Meyers are very similar in that I'd like a quieter, small, friendly, playful, talking parrot. I've heard senegal's call and it's pretty loud, perhaps a Meyers is just as loud. I just want a bird that is more even tempered than my lovebird was. Again thank you for your help!

Go to BirdBreeders.com - Bird Breeders Directory of Availability and Parrot Breeders.
Click on Find a Bird and then click on Poicephalus and you will see three Meyers breeders, one in Ohio, and another in Georgia and the third one in Tenn. Good Luck! Its a very good web site to find a reputable breeder.

I'm in Manhattan at the moment and just visited a great place on the upper west side called Uptown Birds (212 877 2473). I was indulging in wonderful safe toys that are hard to find at home. Their birds look happy and healthy, most of them playing together in a huge aviary space. I think I saw what may have been a Meyers.....You might give them a call.

If you want to go to New Brunswick, I highly recommend Joanne Cormier at indexplay I know she's got Meyers eggs right now.

I recently bought my Hahn's Macaw from her and we couldn't be happier. She does a great job with her babies, that's for sure.

meyers- aviary rating

Can anyone give me a rating on value perch in Michigan or Brightwood Aviary in Georgia? I'm still looking for a baby Meyers parrot and they may have one but I don't know anything about them. Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you considered Jean Pattison: New Page 2

She is in FL, so I’d imagine that having a Meyer’s shipped would be your best option. Jean is very well-known and respected for her knowledge of African grey parrots and poicephalus parrots.

Jean also has associates that hand-raise African parrots (greys and poi’s) parrots for her in MD: African Queen Babies in Maryland

Best of luck... and don't hesitate to investigate other species of parrots, too!
