Congratulations on bringing Wally home and into your life. He looks to be a good size, do you know how many grams he weighs?
I wish you the best of luck with him.

I weighed him at 111g the night I brought him home. I want to keep track of his weight with the new diet. The vet said that he didn't feel at all fat, so that's surprising and a relief. But for sure I want to know how he progresses with the stress of a new home, new animals/people to get to know, new diet, etc. He's adjusted very well to the new food, and is trying new foods every day. He adores corn, and will eat almost anything after a few introductions to it. It's good to see!
What do you have for fids? How are they doing?

Wow, based on his images I would have thought he was in the 130+ gram weight. Remember that many of our fids love corn, but it’s not the most nutritious food so you don’t want it to be a large or daily part of his diet. Feeding a little every few days is fine. With new foods you offer, you may find Wally taking different approaches to food based on how you prepare it. Until recently Pepper, my Senegal Parrot, wouldn’t eat a cooked carrot, but he loved raw carrots. Even with raw carrots, if the carrot was cut into slices (circles) he won’t eat them, but he attacks carrot sticks with enthusiasm. What a picky and spoiled fid he is.

That is interesting...I've noticed that he will not touch cooked carrots. I'll have to see what he thinks of raw! and what shape he prefers. the corn is in with the mix of beans and carrots and peas, so it's not really that much I don't think. he really likes peas, so that's good. Tomorrow he will try romaine lettuce. I'm going to weave it into the cage bars and see what he thinks of that. I'll also put some in his dish. It appears that he doesn't really have any foraging skills. I'll have to try a bunch of different stuff to stimulate him that way and see what he likes.
Today was a good day with Wally and my bf. He quite willingly stepped up on his finger, and then proceeded to stretch out and groom himself! So that was great to see. Once he's reliable with my bf, I will bring in friends for him to get to know. I want to be sure that he's social and somewhat trustworthy with people. This way it will be way easier to go away.
Thanks for the tips with the food! Keep them coming, I want to be sure that I'm giving him the best environment possible.
