Can we talk about Senegal weight?

Hi everyone! I wanted to check in with you all about your Sennie's weights. Pepper's Pa are you there? I am curious how much Pepper weighs.

Our You-You, a 2 year old male, is very active and flies quite a bit every day. He weighs 155 grams, which seems to me like a lot, from what I've seen on the internet. But he does not have "breast chub", looks very lean (he is small - or rather short - a little under 8 inches), so I am assuming the extra weight might be muscle. Our vet says "if he flies, he's not overweight", but I wanted some feedback from other Sennie people.

Fidrych is 132 grams and almost 5 months old. He can fly for short distances - he was clipped by the pet store. He is a good eater, though, and eats whatever I give him - I'd better be careful not to make him fat!

Being a Science teacher for nearly 30 years, I’m still hooked on data. I’ve weighed Pepper every day since December 3, 2006 (that’s 575 days or points of data). The graph below shows the results of this data.

His average weight during this time is 138.83 grams.
His highest weight was 145 grams.
His lowest weight was 132 grams. (Because of the compression on the graph, you can’t see this measurement.)

Pepper hatched in December 2004. The weight data is from about two years of age to three years and eight months of age.

I don’t think you have any concern for You-You’s weight. If he’s active and a good flier, then he will have good muscle development and muscle is denser than fat and will weigh more than an equal amount of fat.

very well done!!! Zoey's hatch date is December '04 as well. She isn't as big as Pepper though. The most she has weighed in is 125g and 113g is her lightest.

Thanks much, PP! That's a great graph - I used to weigh You-You every day, but now only about once a month. I think I'll stop worrying that he's overweight!
jimpierce - Zoey sure is a pretty little girl!!

Max is 17 months old and weighed in at 146 g. on his last vert visit, about ten days ago. He is very muscular and strong, doesn't fly because he's clipped, but he's very active. He climbs everything, walks all over the place and really enjoys his fruits and vegetables. I'm wondering whether to keep him clipped or not, but I lost two cockatiels because they weren't clipped and I have a bit of a horror of the same thing happening to Max. The vet says his weight is okay if it stays at or below 150 g.
