Question about Wood

Hi all I hope my first question isn't to obvious

I made a stand for our little Jessica (a year old Senegal)

Poplar dowl attacted to a Pine post. The little scamp desided that it would be fun to hang upside down and chew on the post. this would of coarse lead to issues of gravity. So I used Duct tape as a temperary plug...which she easily chewed off. So I made a couple of blocks of subfloor plywood to cover the 'chewed area' zip tied on (for easy replacment)

My question is, is there any danger to her in chewing on Either duct tape or the Plywood Lueon? She enjoy's chewing on both and I have seen no affect in her.

Thanks for your help!

Neither plywood or duct tape would be good for your bird. i wouyld take those away immediately.

I would agree, I was never very happy with that solution.

I have changed it now. I have Plastic over the wood of the stand, rapped tight with simple twine I think that will be better....till she figures it out......

You might want to hang something else from the perch that she is allowed to hang upside-down and chew on. If you praise her for chewing on the toy rather than the stand itself she'll probably stop bothering to try and chew the stand and will just go for the toy.

Hehe, you'd think that, However, all her toy's dangle down and she loves to hang and chew them, but that nice center post made of pine... well thats fun too. I think I'll get some thin sheet metal she can't get a purchase on.

I found a reasonably priced metal stand on eBay for my 4-year old Senegal and so far he's not destroyed it!

You'll have to be carefull as to what metal you use as well. Sometimes it's galvanized which could lead to zinc toxicosis. How about replacing the post with a hardwood one?

Which Hard wood would you use? I know some hardwoods are bad for her. at the moment I have nailed on 4 long 1/4" poplar boards which seem to have slowed her down and are also easy to replace when she does get back down to the pine. As well I find that if I change up her toys more often she isn't as interested in the post.
