Question About my pair of senegals i got!

I got a pair of senegals 3 weeks ago! i was told male and female! Male import 10-12years and hen is 6-7years old both banded! They look like male and female to me! But im going to get them DNA sexed just to make sure! They chew there 2 perches apart! Why they do that for? They have toys in there cage with them! The guy got them from never put toys in the cage before! I payed $400 for them! There a bonded pair! I do got pics if you like to see! I got a question about the nestbox for them! Can you use a conure nestbox or got to get a boot nestbox for them? Thanx Alot Holly!

A conure sized nestbox should do fine for a pair of senegals. As far as the perch chewing, try to find harder wood branches, and give them safe branches from a tree (fresh ones, especially if they still have green leaves on them) for them to chew. Try to find them wooden toys as well though some breeders don't really care for toys and would rather chew branches.

I have two pair

Hi' I have two pair of Senegals. One pair is quiet and just play with their toys and chew all the wood I give them. They also chew all the shavings that are in their nestbox. But thats all.
Pair #2 Well they chew everything toys, wood pieces I give them and their nest box. I found the female looking out of the bottom of the nest box one day, she had chewed a hole all the way through, twice. I put wire on the bottom inside the nest box, big mistake they laid their eggs and crushed them into the wire. I finally put a sanded gouged piece of plexiglass on the bottom and it worked fine.
I give them hardwood, softwood and all kinds of branches to chew. I read that Senegals are like Beavers with feathers and it fits my #2 pair.
Good luck Joan

If they were given the 'good stuff', then they would like just about anything that you ate... a senegal is about the same size as many conures so a conure nestbox should do. However, if not, one can always build one.
