I just saw the new Kings aluminum cage. I've seen the travel cages but this is the first full size cage. I love it. I have the dark blue Avian Adventures playtop cage for Bing. I love the color but it never looks clean (I can't say I wasn't warned). Even freshly cleaned it is streaky. I would love to have that aluminum cage. It is really great. Having said that, I don't know how long it will last. I would think indefinitely. I've never heard a complaint about stainless besides the expense.

BTW, I really, really want a cape parrot.

Being in Virginia, are you familiar with Dj Feathers aviary in Alexandria? They breed Capes and they're fantastic breeders. They really love their babies.

yes but I live about 6 hours away - they are near DC. I am committed to
Maggie in Indiana. If I've waited a year I can wait some more :)
I figure if Jazz turned out so well .

.... Maggie has been a great
resource of information and has become a good friend so I will stick with
her.

Thanks for the info though!

I have heard great things about DJ Feathers also! Perhaps if they were closer where I could visit often I would consider it. But since I am so far away...

Thanks for the first hand report Tom - did you see the aluminum cage in a pet store? I really would like to see one in person if I could.

I have two Avian adventure cages - in dark emerald. They are beautiful but my tiel gets her dust and dander all over it.

So for my Cape I will probably stick with white, stainless, or silver.

I think I will write the King's company to find out more about the cage - cleaning, etc.

I just spent this morning cleaning my two AA cages with vinegar & water & Pet Focus where it was really messy.

And Tom - Maggie has one male Cape available - a baby :) And her prices are very, very reasonable :) She raises them in her home and they are spoiled rotten...Well just look at Jazz :)

Maggie also used to raise green cheeks. She now only breeds pionus and Capes - the two parrots (besides Timneh Greys) that I was investigating.
When I told her I wanted a bird like my conure, only larger she told me to go with the Cape. :)

I did see the aluminum cage for real in a pet store. It is a good size and is going for $750.00. I liked it a lot. I have a sandstone colored Kings Cage for Davey and love it. It keeps better than the dark blue Avian Adventures. Don't get me wrong. I love the AA cage. It is quality and I bought two of their "Poquito Avian Hotel" travel cages for my boys (in grey), so I like AA products but like you, I've learned the dark color is so hard with things like feather dust, pellet powder, bird mess, etc. The sad part is I was warned. The owner of the bird store cautioned me but I didn't think it would be as high maintenance as it is.

A male baby eh? I don't think a Cape or any other type of parrot will be added to my little flock any time soon. But I love Jazz (I met him in person) and another Cape I met (Bird store owner). They are such nice parrots. You are so fortunate.

Stop tempting Tom! :) If Tom did get a Cape I would tell him what I have told other bird owners - If you already have a bird, get a female Cape. The Males become very difficult to deal with if there are other birds in the house.

Jazz is not spoiled.... he is just a very material boy. He is sitting in the middle of my kitchen table surrounded with not one, but two foraging baskets that he as torn apart and a new destructo toy that is made of compressed corrugated cardboard, alternating between chewing star anise, and cinamon sticks - life is good. All he needs is a little girl parrot to peel his grapes.

I just checked out DJ feathers aviary. Seems like a great place. I only wish they included info on capes. I have read everything on the web over and over, and am always looking for fresh insights or suggestions on doing right by Jazz . I'm sure you have already found our there is only a very small amount of information on these guys, with Thor's page being the biggest, and that is now inactive.

Anytime Tom wants a Cape "fix" I will meet him 1/2 way on the thruway and he can visit with Jazz. Newburgh is where I usually meet my folks for lunch not to bad a ride for my folks, and a straight shot from Albany.

Sigh - the only Cape fix I get is Jazz photos and videos of Thor & Emma on
Youtube.

Beth you are so right about the limited amount of information about Capes.
I think I had found everything on the Web and every Bird Talk issue and
have Mattie Sue Athan's book on pois.

Sigh.

Guess I will just have to plan a trip to New York to see Jazz and the cage :)

Beth - more Jazz photos...any chance of videos??????
