Cage for Cape parrot
I am hoping that I will be the new mommy of a female Cape parrot sometime this year. I've been waiting for almost a year now so have saved some money for a nice cage.
I already have two Avian Adventure playtop cages for my conure and cockatiel and love the design. However, I recently have seen the Kings Cages aluminum cage advertised in Bird Talk and on their website. I have also seen on another website that Avian Adventures finally has released a stainless steel version of their Mediana playtop. So now I am considering the Avian Adventures Mediana in powder coat or stainless as well as the Kings aluminum cage. Here are the sizes: Mediana 34 x 24 x 33 with playtop, 7/8 bar spacing Kings 33 1/4 x 24 7/8 x 27, 3/4 bar spacing Mediana: powdercoat pic: MEDIANA - PLAYTOP - Avian Adventures - AvianEnrichment.com stainless pic: MEDIANA PLAYTOP - STAINLESS STEEL - Avian Adventures - AvianEnrichment.com King's aluminum cage: https://www.kingscages.com/cages/new...prod_1154.html I'd appreciate any feedback regarding these choices or recommendations for others! Thanks!

Thank you!
I am very excited. I"ve wanted to get a larger parrot for several years now but finally narrowed it down to a Timneh grey or a cape. I decided on a Cape because my husband has asthma and I know that greys have dander. Heck - my little tiel keeps my air cleaner working hard. My breeder (Jazz's breeder also) had three babies, all male, in late December. They are still weaning and I believe one is available. Jazz's parents now have another 4 eggs so I am hoping one is a girl. If you ever decide to get a Cape I would suggest this breeder - she is excellent. She sent me photographs and updates several times a week when the first clutch hatched after Christmas. I know that Beth can verify how wonderful Maggie is! If you are interested in more info just PM me.

How exciting!!
Aw, I would really love one! Maybe as soon as my hubby and I can get into a bigger place, we'll get another one... our little apartment living room is already filled with cages! LOL Where are you located though? For future reference we could totally use her to get our cape |

Well I am in Virginia and Maggie is in Indiana - she does ship. I believe Jazz was shipped with no problems.
You are smart to take your time and not rush into a decision! After all it took me several years! Do you have a parrot now?

Oh okay... I'm in California...
I have 2 conures right now a Sun and Gold Cap... if I could house the two of them together I would have another parrot right now! LOL But the older of the two conures is still protective of us and doesn't like the idea of that second bird in the house |

Jazz's cage is a older model. It was originally our TAG's. It is a "clone" of a King's cage that was popular at that time. 36" tall x 34" x 34". It has a playtop. 3/4" bar spacing.
All that being said, he spends almost no time in it. He sleeps in it, and because he is a late sleeper, he comes out when I get home from work @ 11:00 AM. He spends the rest of his day on one of several playstands scattered around the house. If I go out during the day, he goes into a smaller portable travel cage that we use when we vist our folks. He will not poop in his bigger cage, so I cannot leave him in there unless he is sleeping. Get whatever cage fits your budget and space best, they are all great choices. If color enters into the question, bear in mind that Jazz's poops are ENORMOUS in comparison to my TAG's. Somehow they don't seem to jump out at me as much in the white cage. :) |

Re: poop size - well then I am in for a big shock since I am just used to my green cheek's poop :) Good thing that all cages come in white or silver color. Well I have plenty of time (unfortunately) to make up my mind. I am leaning toward the AA cages as I have two already and love them - great quality, easy to move & playtops can be moved also. Thanks!
