Question Brown head or meyers?

I've found a baby brown headed poi online at a breeder's and there's a meyers at a bird dealer. The meyers is outrageously priced at $600! I owned a Red belly that recently died and I loved his personality and boy could he talk up a storm! Do Meyers or brown heads talk? I really miss my RB! He did startle easily however and I've read that Meyers are a bit more low key. I would consider another RB but I fear the sadness I'd feel remembering my Diego. Can anyone help?

You might check out the following breeder for information on brown heads.
She breeds them and red bellies.

I bet thats the same Brown Headed that I've been considering, lol. I think he's great but we've decided against him unfortunately. We weren't looking for a Poi but he sure was tempting. I'd go with him if I were you. If he was what we were looking for, he'd be home already. You're in our area so I'm guessing it's the same bird.

I've often heard that Red-bellies have the best reputation amongst the small Poicephalus for being talkers. Followed by Sennies.
However, Poicephalus aren't known to be the best talkers out there. And like with any other species, some will, some won't. I might be wrong, but based on what you wrote, it seems you're putting some importance in speech and you might end up disappointed.
With that said, I know Meyer's can talk. One of my two has a fairly large vocabulary, although she has stopped using most of the words she knew as she became settled in (she spoke up a storm at first). She does know many more articulate words than my Red-bellied who is a mumbler (which I find adorable). I'm guessing that the Brown heads also have the ability to talk, but I have no met any personally that did.

As for being startled..my Red-bellied was also easily startled at first. I've since read that it seems to be a common thing with young Red-bellies. Joey is much better now, although I think he's still the most nervous of my birds, even though he'll be the first to "show off" for new people.

I really, really want a Red Bellied. More than I ever thought I would. I met one recently and I was beyond smitten with him. Jake is not so sure, though. We're probably waiting until late summer to get our baby unless the right one just happens along. I wanted the Brownheaded but we're really not sure that he's what we're looking for.

Thanks all for your comments and help! I'm still torn whether to get another Red Belly or a Meyers and waiting for babies around central NY. I'd like to visit with the baby before purchasing. Shipping makes me nervous not to mention the added expense and drive to the airport. Any of you had your bird shipped? Was it traumatized or alright?

Brown head or meyers

Let me begin by saying I have bred, senegals, red bellies, meyers, jardines, and brownheads. My most favorite is the brown head. We kept one of the babies as a pet and she is a real nut. Will go to anybody, talks up a storm, called me by name and could actually ask questions to you. She loves playing soccer on the bottom of her cage with a ping pong ball. This bird is a little angel! Not to expensive either.
I have had birds shipped before and there was never any problem. Don't wait till it gets to hot though.

i just lost my meyers parrot, she was an amazing choice.
who ever said meyers parrots are low key...?
my meyers was a clown!
she would talk up a storm!!
:]
she was so silly.
i think it just depends on the individual bird's personality.
600 bucks?!
where did you look ?
i got mine for 250.

ive never had a brown headed parrot but from what i hear they are very sweet.

were you planning on going to this breeder to pick out your parrot?
i would recommend you do that, otherwise there is no guarantee you two will click as well as your red belly did,

im very sorry for your loss. how long ago was it?
