Senegal bit my cockatiel

Have any of you who have Senegals have problems with them biting or attacking your other birds? I just lost my cockatiel. My senegal attacked him, bit his leg and it broke. The vet couldn't fix it. I had to have her put down today. Is this typical of a Senegal?
I never had him as a baby. Got him when he was 3 or 4 years old and he would bite me a lot when I first got him. I really hurt too! He never bites me
anymore. He's been a great bird up until this incident.

I'm sorry this happened and am sorry for your resulting loss.

But having two birds of different sizes and different beak strength together out at the same time is always a gamble. I find they do truly have to be supervised otherwise things can go bad.

You can't blame the Senegal for what has happened. They don't understand whether it's right or wrong.

One of my Meyer's actually nailed my Lovebird on the beak once. It split and part of it fell. It happened during a split second where I was in the kitchen and left my boyfriend to look after the birds and he decided to follow me to ask me a question...Do I blame my Meyer's for this? No (although I'll admit I was upset with her for a few days, I did concede it was not her fault). Did I blame my boyfriend for not giving them his full attention when I specifically told him to? He got part of the blame, but again, the birds are here mostly because of me so I couldn't stay upset with him. I was lucky and my Lovebird fully healed (had the bite been slightly off where it was, and the injury would of been more permanent) but it has taught me to be even more watchful.

Accidents might happen. It is sad that this one had to end this way.

My meyers bit the toe off of a cockatiel in her previous home. I keep their cages across the room from each other, and my meyers is kept clipped so that she can't go after the tiels, who are fully flighted. And I am always in the room with them too.

Poicephalus seem to not like other birds too much, at least the ones I've known.

My Senegal never liked other birds and he would go after my cockatiels pretty viciously if he was near them. They can be tempermental.

I'm sorry about your tiel.

Thanks everyone!
I don't blame my senegal. It was really my fault. They weren't housed in the same cage but sort of hung out together in the same area when I would let them out. I also have a blue-headed pionus that didn't seem to like her that much either. The cockatiel I had for a year and there was never any major problems until now. I've learned my lesson. Never leave them out alone unsupervised.

I'm sorry for your loss It's unfortunate that this happened, but thanks for posting as it's reminder for those who are less diligent about this or the one's that tend to forget that things can happen in a split second when they're not looking...especially with different species and sizes.

Aloha!
I'm sorry for your loss. My sennie, Mugu bit my tiel's foot and broke the bones. I rushed Mr. Vis to the emergency vet and she said the only option I had was to amputate the foot! Gasp..I just asked her to bandage the foot and I would see my own vet in the morning. My vet said the foot could be saved but would have to be in a "ball cast" for about 12 days. It was really cumbersome for Mr. Vis but he adjusted and now his foot is good.

I have to be vigilant with Mugu when she approaches Mr. Vis' cage. I don't want this to happen again!
