The reason I went with Poicephalus is because I knew I was going to live in an apartment at one point (I was still living with my parents when I first got my Senegal) and I wanted a parrot who wasn't too big (limited space), wasn't excessively noisy (some squawks ok, just not continuous loud calls that might bother close neighbours) and was somewhat independent meaning it could be alone for a portion of the day and keep busy with it's toys without problems.
The Pois fit the bill. I have had my Sennie since she was weaned and hence was able to educate her from an early age. Some people say Senegals might overly bond to one person and be mean to others; I brought mine to the local parrot club meetings and introduced her to friends of mine at home so she would be properly socialized; it worked, she will go see just about anyone and doesn't really bite people (if she doesn't want to interact, she gives plenty of signs and I don't force it on her). She is fairly quiet (my lovebird is actually more noisy than my Pois and is fairly silent for a lovebird I've been told) and actually mumbles/talks rather than scream. However, Pois are capable of a very high pitched call (my Meyer's are quite adept at it when they want) and not everyone can stand it. My Senegal is also very capable of independent play; she loves it when I have one on one attention to give to her, but is quite happy playing on the playgym (when I'm at home and she can be out) or in her cage (mostly when I'm at work). She's not the cuddliest bird, but for me that is a good thing; I much rather have my birds be a part of my flock without having to be on me all the time. She does have her moment when she wants her scratches and/or sleep on me and cuddle close. As for this particular Senegal you are considering buying..I would go and visit him/her before making my mind. Why is it being put up for sale? Hold old is it? I got my Red-bellied off Kijiji and it was a good choice, but it did click between the two of us and his owner answered every question I had asked him.

I have a female 11 yr old senegal. The second she saw my mom she was in love. (My mom planned to take her but she's been staying with me.) She's had at least 4 homes. She enjoys cuddles and is friendly with everyone. It took her a while to feel comfortable. She's a great little bird. We have to watch her moods though and she startles easy. She is sooooooo quiet. She has a decent vocab that continues to grow. Her new thing is saying bang bang bang like a hundred times in a row. That's what I get for leaving the tv on the cartoon channel.
I would say if you feel strongly that you should get him, at least go meet him.

I am going to meet him Monday. (They think it is a male but no dna.) She is getting rid of him because she has 22 birds and needs to downsize, thats what she told me when I asked. She also told me he wasn't a biter, he bit her once when he was startled by her dog, thats the only time she told me.(She said it wasn't a hard bite.) He is 3 yrs old, comes with his cage and so forth. What else should I look for or ask? I tried to cover everything already such as what he eats, how he acts, any bad behaviors, so forth....I am hoping its a good match or I can at least offer him a great home. (If I have anything to work with on him I would like to know up front so I can handle it and be prepared.)
