Rueppell's Parrot

I was wondering if there were any members who shared their life with this little gem of a Poi. I just recently started to get to know them and am finding myself madly in love with them and would like to hear more about them from anyone who actually lives with them.

Thanks,

Jen

Are they similar to a Meyers? I don't have one, but have been seriously considering getting a Meyers in the near future. They look very similar. Where were you thinking about getting a Ruepell's parrot from? Never heard of them in our area (From Madison area too)!

I’ve read of Rueppell’s Parrots, but I’ve never heard of anyone with them. Are they something you’ve seen and are available in your area or have you only read about them?

I don't believe that there are many breeders working with them here in the US, so it will be difficult to find someone with hands-on experience.

Steve Garvin of The Feather Tree raises them. I'm not sure if he has any available as pets: Ruppell's Parrot- Poicephalus rueppellii

Wow how cute... I have never seen one before. They must not be very popular and hard to find. Kinda like Capes maybe. I found a pic for those like me whom have never seen one. If you get this little cutie, I definitely want to see more of him/her. How much do they cost? Meyers and Sennies are a little on the reasonable side where Capes are kinda expensive.
The link posted above is a really good link... they are beautiful!

Rueppels will probably be more cost wise than a Meyer's or a Senegal; like the Cape parrots, they aren't that common in aviculture and the price will probably be higher because of this (the breeding pairs themselves are probably expensive to start with).

I know of one person in Canada who breeds them and he's had a couple of clutches.
