Smile A great new beginning

So, I had to share this story:

From time to time I accept into my home birds that are not likely to find easy placement elsewhere. I have posted about a BF Amazon, 40 year old, wild caught, who recently came to live with me. There were two birds, him and his best buddy, a CAG. The grey was not given medical attention and sadly died leaving the other bird to mourn in isolation for more than a year. When he came here he was almost 200 grams underweight, shocking!

I do not like to work with more than one tough case at a time but decided to accept an Un-Cape parrot who had become very aggressive toward birds and people in what was his second home on the request of a mutual friend.

Both birds are housed separate from my flock temporarily. We would give each bird time out of their cages at separate times and began to find one always on top of the other's cage - then one day we found both out on top of one cage as the Un-Cape turns out to be quite the escape artist!

Today a beautiful thing happened as they regurgitated for eachother and gently touched beaks, then began to take turns preening eachother's head feathers.

It just goes to show that there is a place in this world for all birds and sometimes the greatest thing we can both do for them and learn from them is to give them what they truly need -other birds.

I think they have both found not only a new home, but the chance to give to eachother what I can not give to either one.

While one is handleable still and the other is not, I am grateful that they now have a real buddy in the other so that they will not need more from me than I can reasonably give.

It must have been meant to be.

That is a really nice story! It sounds like they are a lot better off with you.

Thanks Matt and Gail for your kind words. The two birds continue to do well both independently learning to eat better foods (the amazon was severely underweight) and play with new toys, and vocalize more normally... together they are wonderful, still talking to eachother and spending time together. It is a beautiful thing to see.

That is such a nice story. Thank you for sharing it.

I wish my two liked each other.
