Smile Introducing Kermit

I talk tons about Patience, but little Kermit deserves a mention as well! I love this little bird, although he really belongs to my husband. The two of them get lots of special time in the evening after he gets home from work, and I have tried to not overly talk or hold him throughout the day so that he will bond with Shane...but his dark little eyes call me over to him and I can't help but cuddle with him off and on through the day. I know it makes Patience jealous.

Patience and Kermit are in cages with a 30 gallong fish tank separating them. I dont have a photo of the birds in their new cages, but I do have this one of my KIDS in the cages right before we set up for the parrots. *lol* I was trying it out as a new "time out" spot!

So here is a few photos...
1. Kermit 4 weeks old
2. Kermit last week
3. Our cages washed and ready for the Sennies!

Hehe. I just put my cage together for my green-cheeked conure and my sister and I totally took pictures of each other in the cage as I was assembling it.

Surprisingly... you feel very secure in them. :D

Thanks for sharing more about Kermit with us.

As with most companion parrots, Kermit will make his own choice about the person or people in his life that he favors. I think it would be in his best interest to socialize him with everyone (including your children if they are old enough and supervised) as much as possible.
Some companion parrots who form a very close bond with a person when they are young, change their favorite person when they mature. I’ve heard this compared to a young child’s relationship with his or her parents that change to a relationship with a spouse in the future.

I agree, dark, baby eyes are very hard to resist. I was sorry when Pepper’s eyes first began forming the light ring and losing their all black appearance.

Really? A bonded young parrot might change and bond with someone else! NO!!! I am in love with Patience too much to think of that!

As for Shane and Kermit, he really does seem to prefer him to me right now for whatever reason. We are not forcing it too much. Kermit sees shane come home from work and he is bursting to get out of the cage and onto his shoulder, its really cute.

I am going to work harder at socializing the parrots with whomever can. I want the healthiest well rounded Parrot I can get.

I just can't believe I lived my life so long without birds in it! I had no idea how rewarding it can be. I feel like this is perfect for my life right now on so many levels.

I 100% agree with that.
Kermit will choose who he'll like and not and getting him well socialize will help help him accept lots of people and not form strong one person bonds, which really one should avoid...

Does your new addition have an orange or yellow chest? I can't tell from the picture. From the looks of the picture I think you might have a new Brown Head addition to your family and not a Senegal. In fact I think both of your birds look like they are Brown Heads? If you got a Brown Head, you got yourself a wonderful little bird coming your way. Let me know...and congrats!

Where did you get your birds from? I'm almost sure Kermit is a Brown Head and from the looks of the pics of Patience it almost looks like he could be a hybrid cross of a Senegal and a Brown Head. If they do not have a yellow/orange/reddish v-shaped chest you got yourself some Brown Heads....congrats....look at my post about Brown Heads I just posted a bit ago and look on the Internet at Brown Head parrot pictures and I think you may be surprised!

Thank you schwabisim for telling me about brown heads. I never knew what they were before. I got my birds from a local breeder here in my town that has been selling senegals for years. You can't see in these photos their chest, but they both have yellow/orange feathers and the V shape too. I will post better photos soon so you can see.
