I'm not a fan of stackable cages since the one in the lower portion often gets less light.
My cages are 22"x24"x63" overall height (click here to see the model cage I use). Some people say bigger might be better, and it's true as long as there is proper bar spacing, but sometime space can be an issue. I found my birds actually use the overall inside height and they seem to quite like their cages and they come out often enough that I don't feel bad not having them is something any bigger.

poi's cage
Cool! That's exactly the cage my Meyers has. I have a green cheek in one of those too.
My Green Cheek doesn't have the playtop, I bought that for the Meyers. I think my living room is about to be taken over by birds! Diane |

In addition to the reasons already given for not using stackable cages, here is one more to consider. I’ve read many times that Poi’s don’t play well with each other. If you have stackable cages it will increase the possibility that the two parrots will have the chance for an accidental, unsupervised interaction when climbing on the outside of their cages. I’ve heard too many reports of bitten, injured and even amputated toes removed from a parrot climbing on the outside of a cage with a Poi inside of it.
They may accept each other and interact safely, but you need to be prepared for the other possibility to occur. Good luck in finding cages that work well for your Meyer’s and new Sennie.

Slightly off topic, but that goes double for Agapornis.. (biting through the bars) as one of my female sennies toes bear marks. (No claw on one toe) :(

good to know, thanks folks! I'd want cages that are completely separate anyway I think, so I could move them if I wanted to do that.
I didn't really like the stackables either. My hubby who is the one who wants the Senegal, has accepted that there will be a need to locate yet another cage :) in our living room. Who needs a TV? I only watch House anyway. |

What about a cage for a bonded Senegal and African Grey who are never taken out - or rather I should say RARELY taken out of their cages. Disgusting I know - but we are working on changing that. Meantime, I'm trying to locate a stainless steel cage (they are in a greenhouse where there is constant misting of the plants...don't ask). They are about 2 years old I believe.
Any ideas? |
