Type of Poicephalus: Meyer's named Gonzo

Age: 19 years old

Where you got him/her: Adopted him a year ago from a parrot rescue group.

Absolute favorite treat: Sunflower seeds. Yeah, my guy's not that original. Ha.

Cuddly/not cuddly: Gonzo is fairly independent, but he loves being scratched, and when he's done chewing up his wood blocks or paper on his play tree, he'll fly over, land on the coffee table, waddle over to my propped-up feet, climb aboard and pick his way up my legs and onto my chest, where he settles down for a rest and scratches.

Talks? Only in bird.

Tricks (if any): Hm, none, really, other than mind control. He seems to have a way of making me buy organic foods, numerous toys and whatnot.

Behavior issues he/she is working on: Right now, we are working on curbing some aggression issues that arose when I introduced a second bird in February. Gonzo has to share me now, and also gets less out of cage time, so he is a bit grumpier. For the most part, though, he is a dream to live with.

Describe some things that make him/her special: Gonzo was surrendered to a rescue group that labeled him unadoptable. He (18 at the time) was then shuttled to a second rescue group (along with a few other Meyer's). His cagemates beat him up! He was caged alone in a room separate from the other birds. All along the way, the poor guy was rejected. But I fostered him and found out what a great guy he is. He's independent but friendly, sweet and writes existential poetry. Ok, that last one was a lie...

So sorry about your plummets LOL. And I'm quite certain the vocab will improve in time. You'll get a "step up" with a real understanding of its meaning within 3 years I'm sure!!!! :)

Haha, that is funny. I had the exact opposite happen. My senegal imitates my quaker's noises. Which I actually like, because my quaker is quieter than my senegal!
