My new Meyers

Okay, so let's see, I've had my new Meyers baby for about one month. She was born mid February.

She bonded to my husband within maybe 3 days. In retrospect, no shoulder time with him again when I get a new bird!

I've been PATIENT, but she hasn't come around with me.

It's okay, I can deal with that, I just don't want her to be threatened, or bite me. Sometimes she does go after me. I'm afriad she's going to take off my face.

What is the best way to make peace with this bird? I'm the feeder, caregiver, etc. I really don't want a 5 month old bird for her own sake, to be bonded with only one person.

He's been backed off, no more shoulders etc, but when she sees him she gets so excited she regurgitates. He was gone all weekend and we basically make no progress.

It's interesting because like now, when he's gone and I'm here, she will whistle for me. She doesn't try to bite when I take her out of the cage. But she will bite if I try to perch her on my finger. She will sit on her basket next to me, and that's about it.

a side note: the reason I picked a Meyers is that I hoped this wouldn't happen. He wants, wants a Senegal, so I'm not even sure how to go about letting him handle that bird!

Give her special treats that she only gets from you. Don't let her know that her bites scare you. You may have to except that she loves him more. Have you tried taking her on short outings with just you? Make spending time with you as fun and rewarding as possible.
I have an 11 yr old senegal. She fell in love with my mom upon meeting her. She was supposed to go live with my mom but has been with me and will probably end up being with me for the rest of her life. She likes everyone. As soon as my mom enters my house she starts talking her head off and making sounds to get her attention. She regurgitates for me. She'll let anyone handle her. She's had several homes. I wouldn't call her a one person bird at all.

So quiet on this board! My Meyers is opening up to me. Patience I guess. I am the only one who showers with her and I did find a special treat.

She is such a sweety, so peaceful of a bird.

My hubby can flip her upside down and she will hang by her toes from his fingers.

I think it's just a question of patience for me. I never push her. Today she crawled warily up my arm to help preen my hair. :)

We named her Oscar for Oscar Mayer as it's located here in Madison, WI. How unoriginal is that? Once I decided I wanted to rename her to an African name, the name had stuck. <sigh>

but of course :) I have the requisite post-bath pics.

She was back to loving hubby tonight. She loves me (the "second favorite human") when he's not around. She is NOT stupid.

She thinks "gee I could just sit in my cage here, or I could be nice to THAT Woman"

Hahaha, she's adorable! Thats just like how my uncles BFA is, she's content to sit with most people, but if she see's my uncle, she wants him .

Oscars SO cute! i'm in love with her! I've only ever met a Meyers once at the local pet store - and she was the sweetest bird ever, i wanted her so bad (this was before i got Cookie) but she was already sold when i saw her, :(

I know I'm on a Poi board, but she is a fabulous pet. She is very quiet compared with the conures, very smart and very affectionate. She will let hubby do anything to her and she's warming up a bit to me :) She is young, but she has just started trying to speak. We can't really understand her yet, but I'm certain she is practicing words. She is very clean, tries very hard not to mess on her human or in her cage.

She's a great bird!
