Xafsmom help!

So I was spending time with Cougar today and all of a sudden she regurges right on my shoe! I wasn't expecting that so didn't know how to respond. What should I do to discourage this behavior. I wasn't petting her or anything, she was just hanging out on my hand and mimicking me.

Usually what I do is put Fidrych back in his cage when he starts to regurgitate, no fussing or making a big deal, just letting him know I cannot respond to that form of flattery.

Does that help prevent them from considering you as their mate? I don't want her to go into chronic egg laying mode because of something I did. I'm so worried!

Not in my experience. Can't stop them from picking you as your mate. I would suggest No Shoulder at all. Did you read The Senegal and It's Family? Pois are very different than conures. I found that book very helpful.

Do you know where I can get a copy? *sigh* I wasn't trying to be picked as a mate! I've only had her for 2 full days! OK, so no doing chores with me! LOL! Guess now I need a playstand!

LOL, she LOVES you, you must have rescued her :) Yes the thing that helped us the MOST was teaching Oscar to love playstands.

She was trying to hock some stuff up for my husband, and she stopped when he stopped letting her sit on her shoulder.

Try this:

it's a reasonable book, and well worth it. I've read it twice now.

Amazon.com: Guide to the Senegal Parrot and Its Family (9780764138867): Mattie Sue Athan, Dianalee Deter: Books

Welcome to owning a Jardines. LOL!

She's happy! Kgosi does it to me all the time. My breeders do it whenever they get fed. I wouldn't worry at all about her thinking you're a mate prospect at this point. THis is very common with Jardines.

While she's a new purchase and thus, you need to get her vet checked, this is VERY typical of an overly-excited and HAPPY Jardines.

LOL

Thanks, I was planning on taking her to work this weekend (I work at an emergency clinic that sees birds)! Ok, I feel better now. She always wants to be on my shoulder and will go through hell and high water to get there. LOL! I'll read the book too, never can have too much input! Thanks for all your help you guys!

I agree LOL, I would much rather have this behavior than say a finger amputation :)
