Thanks for the info, very interesting. If you want I can talk the Pet Shop owner down and ship him to you. Hes a sweet little bird. He likes to lay his head down while you scratch him and he has the sweetest little voice and talks really well and very clearly. He is like nothing I have ever seen.

LOL If I could afford him, that'd be tempting.

I've been um, researching these a bit. He's looks like the ones you see on You tube, etc. ? I think all of the ones bred here that I have seen seem to have greyish heads, even though they are "brown necks".

I will have to look on You Tube and see. I think Scouts head looks Gray, however the nape of his neck does have a faint brown appearance to it. Its very hard to say. I never knew there was two different types.

I'd love to have him, but I have soooo much more money to say up until I can get a bird. I only have about $200 saved up so far.

Hi! My Jazz is a 22 month old pff(brown neck). I know Old world aviaries breeds pfs.
Jazz is a great bird. He is starting the terrible 2s and has some attitude these days, but he is still much more mellow than our grey, Gryphon, was at this point. He is very affectionate, talks up a blue streak, destroys his toys with gusto, throws them off the table and yells "Yayyyyyyyy" in the sweetest little voice. He loves everyone in my family, even my grown kids, who don't live home any more.

If you are thinking of a Cape, I would only recommend a male if you have no other birds,
if you have read all of the posts on Thor's Cape Parrot site, it seems that the males can be problematic when other birds are involved. Jazz is an only bird so that shouldn't be a problem for us.

If you have questions feel free to IM me anytime

Jazz sounds like a really nice bird! I haven't read about males being problematic yet, but I also don't have any other birds.

I was just reading Thor's Cape Parrot Site and someone said that their breeder said that males are more challenging once they read sexual maturity and they recommend them for people who have experience with larger birds.

Thor is a great name for a Cape... with those big ole' heads they have. They are very robust looking birds.
Scout too has the sweetest little voice when he talks.

Cape Parrot

Hi! I usually lurk, but had to put my two cents in. I am owned by a female cape. Sam is almost 4 years old now and is the best bird I have ever had.
She talks a storm, will stay in her cage for a few days if I'm busy and not scream, etc., etc.

The only thing (not a problem to me) is that from day one, she was a one person baby. She loves me and will not go to anyone else. Has even gone after my hubby (tries to bite his toes) if he hugs me and she sees it.

We did have a male (husband wanted equal time with a Cape), but, he was so loud all the time that we had to place him in a breeding home. He would not stop screaming untill he had the attention he wanted and he wanted attention all the time. We tried everything for about 6 months, but, to no avail.

Both birds were hand fed and my husband and I finished the hand feeding them.

Sam is more independent, but, loves to cuddle. If you get a cape, I would suggest a girl. From our experience and from what I've recently read about some males, a girl is the way to go.

Truth is my Cape is my love.

Good luck,

Debbie
