Please Help

Hi i will be getting either a baby GreenCheek Conure or QUAKER, am still at the research stage, but getting very excited. These birds seem to be real characters and heaps of fun going by what i have read here and on other sites. I live in an apartment so dont want noise problems... as a companion bird is it better to get a male or female....and added to that do both sexes talk or like some other birds mainly the male...
behaviour wise is it better to get a male or female.. any other advise you think i need to be aware of...
thanks for your help

To me, Quakers are much louder than a Green Cheek Conure (GCC). Living in an apartment, this may need to be a big part in making your decision. Even a GCC may make enough noise to bother neighbors, but they tend to be lower in volume than Quakers.
Both males and female birds talk, but not every bird will talk.
Getting out and being able to interact with these birds would be something important to do. I've seen a number of Quakers available for re-homing through rescues and shelters. Good luck in making your decision.

A well socialized, single Quaker generally is not loud; multiples can be DEAFENING.

Every Quaker I've ever had, including breeders, have talked and mimicked sounds.

I've never owned a GCC, but I have met quite a few and have not met one that speaks very well. Playful, cute little characters though.

My Quaker is quite loud, but only during daylight times. He gets loud in the mornings after uncovered - 9 - 10 a.m. - ish - and in the afternoons between about 3 and 6. This is of course compounded by my cockatiel's singing along with Mikey's squeaking. Quaker should be ok for apartment living.

My only experience with quakers has been in the pet store. Even the single one put out what I consider loud shrieks. That's compared to my GCC, who only gets upset when he hears a squeaky sound or notices I'm about to leave. Its true they aren't known for talking clearly, but he is very cuddly and for me that's more important in a pet.

I totally second that you should meet a few and see which tugs at your heart.

All of the quakers I've met are great talkers. I've noticed unless properly socilized they are very 1 person birds. They are big birds in a little birds body!

I love my quaker and I live in an apartment. He is so sweet and very social. He is lots of fun to play with and can get very loud. No one seems to complain since, as previously posted, it's during the day when everyone is at work. He wakes with me at 5am and in bed, like me at 8:30pm. In the morning he is squaky but mainly to get my attention so I can play with him. He snuggles into my hair while I'm getting ready in the morning and when I come come, we have other games to play. He has his likes and dislikes but your baby will teach you what they are. He gets nippy when he's tired so I just put him to bed. He is lots of fun and I highly recommend them.

My qp is not terribly squawky. He only squawks a couple of times if he wants some of my food or if he is afraid of a new object. Most of the time he sits quietly beside my desk, but I am home all day with him so he never has to be demanding. He likes to talk and I absolutely adore him!

I have had both single M & F GP. In my opinion they are both the same in volume. And both talk.
