Pellets are the way to go

Definitely get the little one on pellets, my quaker is now 3 1/2 and only gets seed about 1/2 tsp. a day or less. My vet said that quakers can get fatty liver disease if given too much seed so keep trying to switch over. Mine also will only eat Zupreem, fruit flavor not spicy, has to be fruit or he throws it at me. Also gets fresh fruit, veggies, loves raisens once in a while, goes gaga over potatoes and pasta!

Hello,
I have dealt with many different quakers, due to our rescue. Quakers are cage territorial, that is their security. We have have luck putting a washcloth over your hand and saying step up, mine jump into the cloth. Some are also afraid of hands and this seems to help out.

pete first did that then i reached into his territory showed i was the boss and now when i go into his domain he will put his foot on my finger then step up but i can tell you they love a pouch or a fuzzy bird tent he feels more comfortable and less stress cause he will snuggle and also he has a certain toy he gets mad at what we call an angry chain so he doesnt use our fingers for his frustration it had a blue heart on it and its so funny to watch cause he gets mad at it then says he is sorry so cute

Where is your quakers cage located. He/She may feel threatened in some way if the cage is sitting out in the middle of your room. You may want to try and put one side against a wall or something. Try just sitting and reading to he/she with the cage door open.
It took my Charlie a month to switch to pellets. I tried several kinds and he finally settled on the plain Zupreem. I did give him a seed mixture with the pellets in smaller and smaller amounts so he wouldn't starve. He also wouldn't touch vegetables at first but he loved apples.
Don't get a cage that is low to the ground birds don't like that. But don't get one that your quaker will be higher than eye level to you either. I heard alot of people say that they will get cage aggressive. When you are doing things around your quakers cage just talk to them and explain what your doing.
Good luck! It will take sometime but don't give up.

Wink using a perch

if you can't get the qp out without him trying to bite you try a perch; put it directly in front of him and say step up. He may nip or bite at it but once he steps on bring him out and let him know what a good job he did, you can do this by giving him a grape (cut in half) My quakers love grapes.
