First af many questions about quakers

I know that thay eat alot of things I can eat. Can I give him peppers? Like Jalapeņo peppers and other hot peppers? Do they taste like we do? My wife and myself love hot peppers, I have some jalapeņo pepper plants and some cayenne pepper plants. just wondering if it was OK to give Mickey some? I hope I don't annoy anybody with my questions, I just want to make sure I give Him the best I can.

Luis,

Of course ya don't annoy anyone with your questions. That really isn't even info. that is considered basic knowledge.

I believe the answer is that it is ok to give them the peppers as I've heard or read that they don't taste them the way we do and I'm almost positive that it doesn't upset their digestion etc......I know ya see the dried ones in seed mixes all the time.....but do wait till you get more responses. I wish I had the time to look it up myself for you. You may want to eventually gets some bird manuals or quality type info. books to have around although I do understand not really practical if ya only have a bird or two.

Thanks for the reply, I do have one book about quakers, I'll need to go back and look to see if it has any useful info. Thanks again.

Luis,

Also a good idea to join a few other bird forums for answers to these questions. Just don't leave us or we will find ya and from then on ya will have to drag a ball & a chain wherever ya go .

Land of Vos is a good site dedicated to Eclectus but info. like that can be found at almost any species specific site. Then ya also have Nancy's site too.

Hot peppers are fine for birds. They cannot feel the spicy or hot sensation as their tongues were not made to recognize spice.

WARNING: Do NOT kiss your bird after he/she has eatin a hot pepper. This may lead to hot burning lips that feel like they are on fire.

Have fun! And great to hear about the new addition!

LOL, I can see how that will burn. I am used to the peppers though, so no problem there. The first night was fine, that is until we woke up to the sound of sqwaking back and forth from the tiels and Mickey. He sure is loud, when he wants to be. I put in one of those honey and seed sticks. It supposed to contain fruits and veggies. He seems to like it. He still bobs his head and flaps his wings so I can give him food. I soaked a little bit of his pellets and gave him some. He kind of goes for his pellets and just stops. I know he is still a baby, but I hope he starts eating more. I put a small brocoli floret in his cage also, just so he has some variety. I'll need to stop by the grocery store later today so I can pick up some fruit, we are a little short on that at the moment. He sure likes to nibble on my fingers, I have been correcting him on this and seems to be taking it OK. We'll see how he does. My daughter is still a little shy about holding him but I'm sure it won't take too long for her to get used to him.

BTW, I should have some pics of Mickey tonight.
