Wild quakers

I'm not sure how many of you know about the wild quakers here in Chicago, but after hearing about them around here for YEARS....I finally spotted some last fall, in our tree outside.

He's right at the top, center branch....tail upward....

I was THRILLED when I finally saw them, well, actually I heard them first, went to check out the "strange bird sound" outside, and there they were.

Here is a link about them.

They are apparantly very popular, and I think they are bringing out a movie too!

Here's a couple other sites about them!

Doesn't help for the matter of fact that I'd love to share my home with a quaker!!!

Chicago?

What part are you from? Most of the QPs are near HydePark. We live on the North side near the lake. We had a QP fly in our buildings 9th floor fire-escape 4 years ago. He was of the bird trade as he had a leg band. We named him Sugar thinking he was a girl, but DNA told us different. He is quite the character. Wally

My wife and I are up on the North Side..Wilson Ave. near the lake. Yes :-( near the Cubs...Here's hoping dem dere Sox can pull it together and maybe another World Series.. But soon to be football season....Go Bears!!!! Back to Quakers... I find that earlier, like mid spring, is the best time to see the quakers around the South side of the museum. Just before all the leaves come out, because you can see those bright green bodies on the barren trees a lot easier. Have you ever gone looking at their huge nests?

Ya know what Joe?? I'm a true hockey fan, which in reality is worse than being a cubs fan......they're just plain awful (the Blackhawks, that is)....but, I stick by them...hockey is the only thing that gets me thru the nasty Chicago winters, and I've been a fan since I was 3 years old....

No, I've never gone looking, but I've seen the birds as far west as South Ashland avenue, right about 43rd street.
