Hi all... I bought a female quaker a few weeks ago and was under the inpression that they wouldnt lay any eggs til next spring. Well I have 3 eggs new. I need to know how long it takes for them to hatch. I know with 'tiels its 18 to 21 days but not sure about quakers.

Is she with a mate? Was she with a mate in her previous home???

If not, then the eggs are infertile and there is no need to worry about them.

Otherwise, the eggs usually take 23-25 days to hatch. She is laying quite possibly because she is kept indoors, in captivity as captivity there are no set times that birds will breed unless they are kept in similar conditions as to those outside, or to say if they live outside in aviaries... If indeed the eggs are infertile you should leave them in with her untill she gets bored with them or for atleast 3 weeks and take them away. After that, take away the items inside her cage that are encouraging her to breed (say if certain toys or a place to sleep).

thanks monica. Yes she is with a mate and I think she had a mate but he died. that is why the lady was willing to sell her. she has had 2 clutches already this year. Sounds like I will have babies in about 25 days :D :D .
Thanks again for your help. OH one more thing, I was told to take the babies out of the nestbox at 14days. Is that about right??

Yes. That is about right as far as the time thing goes. I assume you've fed Quakers before and have everything ready to go.
