head bobbing?

My qp sometimes sits low in his cage like in his food cup and appears to be staring at the cage floor and just so slightly bobs his head up and down. I was startled at first because I thought he was having a seizure or something but I remembered seeing the local petstore qp ( like mascot pet)do the same thing.

I had my music playing and I was exercising. Do you think the music/noise caused this behavior or what? I have looked through this thread and searched a bit online but havent found any info yet.

Smile Head Bobbing

My 8 month old Sun conure, Max bobs his head up and down all the time. I have heard it is a playful thing. I encourage his head bobbing because I think it is so cute. I am also trying to teach him to wistle and without knowing it I bobbed my head at him. Now when I whistle to him without bobbing my own head, he bobs his head at me. I think it is just a part of their personality, but either way it is soo cute.

This is my experience... with a Nanday Conure though.

My Nanday loves to dance and he will do this for hours. However his head bobbing his a whole different story, he does this when he wants to mate, he'll even try to mount my hand if I would let him. He bobs his head up/down real quick, squawks, tries to backup onto my hand, I of course discourage this behavior, and he since does not do it often. Unfortunately I do not have an experience with the quakers, so maybe he is just dancing in your case?

If your quaker isn't young, then it just probubly is playing around with you and your music. How old is he? or did I miss that.? My baby quakers did that when they were begging for food.

Well I have come to the semi conclusion that he does not like the beat/volume of reggae music or my dancing/exercising is making him snappish for whatever hormonal reason. Its not really the quaker quake i don't think so anyway. He's going on 2 yrs old this Sept.

Quakers will always 'quake'. It's just what they do. As they get a little older, not as much, but they will still bob that head. [This is almost like they are bobbing their head in agreement with you.] This is not the same as when they want to feed you and regurgitate their food for you, or, their little hormonal dances. We've had our Sugar for 5 years now. She has decided to lay eggs this past year although there is no daddy bird. She is a very happy girl. She does not talk, although she did a little when she first moved in.

all my quakers do that... whenever they are happy and I talk to them... they slowly bob up and down when they are content and they quickly... like bob or nod their head whenevr I talk to them and when theyre happy chattering and playing. I love it! its very fun to know they have such a distinct personality... more distinct than even the bobbing of other conures!
