LOL! Wish I could own one! Even though I now am safe to own one (well, I'm just less than a mile away from the border of California...), I'm not sure if I might have the chance... I would love to own one, but that will be quite some time still, if I do get a chance to be charmed by one in my own home!

I have two Quakers. I got both of them in my back yard. The first one came to a tree I have and my wife went out with a box of cereal. He was hungry. Then two years later, another one came to the back yard trying to get together with my first one. I left the screen door open and it flew in. Now we have two. We believe it is a pair, but up to now, there has not been any little ones. We are hoping.

primrose04, I know you are going to just love it, whichever one you decide to pick out. Mine loves to give kisses and he says, c'mere, good boy, what some, thank you, and does kissy sounds. I think he learns something new every week. I have only had him a few weeks now. I adopted him from someone that did not have the room or time for him. He is 1 yr. old. His name is Max. :D

Debbie,
I am so excited I can't stand to hold it in any longer I must tell you. I went to see the babies today and was playing with them and heard a bird in the other room Laugh and then say HI! I asked Alan the owner what kind of bird was talking in the other room and he began to tell me a sad story about this 3 year old quaker that he had rescued this week from an elderly lady's home. I guess she was afraid of it and never played with it. He asked me if I wanted to see it and I said sure. He tried several times to get it out of the cage. He told me that it is scared of the new surroundings and will calm down when it gets in a new home. when Alan got her out She came right to me got on my finger, then to my shoulder and started rubbing her beak on my cheek. Started making kissy noises then kissed me several times. I fell in Love. Alan told me that noone has been able to handle her since she came in. He said I could take her home for $150. Now my problems is that My son really wanted to buy me a baby that I could train myself. But I'm a sucker for strays. My lutino cockatiel (F) I'm her 2nd home and my pied cockatiel (F) this is her 3rd home. Ofcourse this is their last home for I will keep them forever. The pied was disabled when I got her she has had a broken wing at some time and is missing the middle toe on her right foot.So she will be with me always. I was so afraid that Alan would sell the 3 year old quaker before my son got to see her. SOOOOO! I put a $20 deposit on her, named her PeeWee and tried to put her back in her cage. She bit me when I tried to get her off my shoulder. Not even as hard as my Pied.then Alan tried to get her off and she really bit him. So I did like I do to my tiels and put my shoulder near the cage and said I have to put you down for a minute and she got right off. I AM IN LOVE!!!!! I must have her.now I have to convince my son that I want the 3 year old instead of the baby. oh by the way I don't know that she is a she I just think she is. I had her saying HELLO and tring to say I love you before I left.So they put a sign on her cage "SOLD,HI MY NAME IS PEEWEE" The lady that had her hadn't even taken the time to name her. I will visit her everyday untill my son comes home next week.Wish me luck. I hope to bring PeeWee home next week. |

It's good to hear that the 3 year old quaker is getting a nice home!!! I hope your son doesn't mind much! I would love to hear more about her when you get her home!
I've gotten two of my birds out of bad situations (not sure of the bourkes, as I don't know just how badly they lived, they were very well loved, but didn't have any toys), n the others needed homes!

Well I went back to the pet shop today to see PeeWee. She really got excited when she saw me. I got her out and put her on my shoulder, and said kiss-kiss.but she acted like she was mad at me. I couldn't go see her yesterday for they are not open on sundays. It took just a little while but she started rubbing her beak on my cheek again. So I petted her head and rubbed her beak and she made kissy noises and kissed me alot. Now she did something I didn't like. This pet shop is also a dog grooming shop. Well she started barking and sounded like a real dog.My cats will be scared to death. the only way I could get her to stop was to whistle. Then she started whistling and then laughed. she said hello and laughed again. I hope she will stop barking after I bring her home. well we had a great visit and I told her I would be back tomorrow to play with her again.
I am really glad that I put the deposit on her. A man came in not an hour after I left and wanted to buy her. I'm glad she is mine. I hope my son will agree. |
