what shape cage?

I was told that a quaker should be placed into a square shaped cage and not round, is that true?

Yes definitely all birds need a square cage. They get nervous in round ones. They need the corners for security especially sleeping.

And there is no round cage BIG enough for a Quaker anyway. They may be on the small side but they are mighty parrots and dont accept being caged well to begin with.

I have two Parrotlets (4 inches each, 28 grams) in a 32 x 21 x 36 and it's too small. They need room for toys, food and flying.

The best cages are rectangular. Width is more important than height, when determining the best cage. For a Quaker, I'd recommend a cage that is at least 30" wide and with a bar spacing of 1/2" or 5/8".

Not only that but it's easier to place perches, toys, and dishes in a square/rectangle cage than it is to place them in a round cage... especially if you've got a dish that requires a flat surface to attach to.... not a rounded one.
