Battle of the Sexes!

My older brother used to have a quaker when I was around seven years old. And she was a female. My brother said that females almost always bond with male humans, and will not tolerate female humans "taking their man". And he said that its vice versa with male quakers being possesive of their female humans. His female quaker absolutely adored all of my brothers and my dad and uncles, but if you got me or my mom, or aunts, grandmas, anyone female; she would go balistic! Is this true of all quakers? Because I was hoping for a female. Although, I will enjoy a male just as much. I just need to know before I buy my bird. :)

Honestly - I think it's a myth that birds will only bond to people of the opposite sex. I know there are birds out that prefer one sex over the other - but I believe it has to do with each individual bird and nothing to do with what sex they are. My daughter has a female quaker - and it adores her!

I have a male quaker and he is really affectionate. You should PM or email Lynjupiter (The Florida West Coast Avian Society, Inc.) - she has 3 quakers at home and 5 in the rescue. She could probably give you more insite on this.

I don't know if my quaker is male or female but it's the sweetest thing ever.

Our male quaker, Sugar, loves me and my wife both. He loves us different, and he repects my authority a little more than my wife. From what I've dealt with, it is an old wives tale. Quakers are a very social parrot, but will be the boss if you let them. You need to be firm with your 'no-bite' andwith your dealing with them. You can smooch them and lite cuddling, but oh the scritching.....they truly love that from their people.

My first Quaker was totally bonded to me and she was a she like me. My new baby is definately a boy and he is bonding to me really quickly we are already at the kissy stage and its only been 2 1/2 days. Neither of them really care for my poor hubby.

my hubby used to have a male quaker that loved him to pieces, but hated my guts. its a myth, and it really depends on how they were raised and socialized, or if you adopt a second hand bird, it will depend on how he was treated before.

I have been breeding Quakers for years. I have many, many as wonderful pets. Both male and female. It made no difference. It's more from the personality in the genes. Just spend lots and lots of time with it, when it is young.
