New here

I'm new to this board. I'm currently owned by 4 Quakers. Derby was my first. He's three now and quite a character. I recently got him a mate, Tinker, and they're slowly beginning to bond... in fact I did catch them in the throes of birdy love the other day so I'm hoping for babies soon. The other "pair" is a pair I bought this past fall from an older lady. She hadn't had them very long and had never had Quakers.. she bred a lot of lovebirds. These are strictly breeders... I hope.. haven't seen any indication thay they're doing any of that yet. I call one Killer... he acts like he wants to eat me alive but when I talk to him, even though he is biting at me through the cage bars, he does move towards me in more of an "I really want to get to know you but don't know how to act" way. They've been quarantined downstairs in the bird room since I got them but I am thinking about bringing them up with the rest of the gang. The other bird is very quiet and withdrawn. The two of them are definitely bonded but Shy doesnt' make any overtures toward me and goes to the farthest corner she can to get away from where I am. I'm thinking that maybe moving them upstairs and letting them see how Derby and Tinker interact with me will help them be more comfortable. I don't have any illusions about them being pets but I hate to think that they are really unhappy here. If I get brave enough, I'm going to try to get them dna'd so I know that I have a true pair. Killer has drawn blood before (from me!!)so I am very wary of his beak. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. I also have tiels and lovebirds.

:icon_eek: 4 Quakers? I can't imagine trying to keep up with that. PeeWee is a handful, But I couldn't love her more. Is there a reason that you don't want the mating pair as pets? I can't imagine having birds that I could not interact with. (IMO) Bring the other pair up with the others you may be suprised and they may become pets. They may want to be loved and interact with you. I'd give it a try.
