Are they loud?

These quakers seem totally cool. Do they get loud and shreek often? I'd like to know both the down side and up side of living with them. Thanks!

I have a quaker I dont think he is loud sometimes in the morning now he gets loud and drowns out the tv. but they are great little birds with a big personality and they love very much . but if you are looking for a bird that want to stay in the cage all the time forget a quaker cause they want human interaction and they demand it . I know mine does and craves it alot . they like to spend time with you . mine does what I call a jungle call just to see if there are other birds in the house other than that he does not get very loud but they do have their moments . They are also very intellegent and some behavorist equate their intellegence to that of an african grey . I believe it cause mine is very smart . anyway i may be biased cause i love him .

In my experience, they are more vocal (as in incessant!) than my conures... but certainly at a more bearable level and intensity! LOL

I would have to say for the most part mine are mellow......... I have 2, one female and one male, in seperate cages. My female is not loud, but talks alot......if she wants you she will repeat herself over and over. She loves to be with you but wants no part of playstand. My male, he is pretty mellow as well until you give him his goodies.......he will become very happy adn loud doing some weirdo dance in the bottom of his cage. They are both to be about 4, but we have been noticing the male to be younger........ He is a riot, and from Ashley talkin so much he is now starting....... She will mimic anything you say to her within a day.......... we have had snuggles about 3 weeks now, and he is now saying stepup and come here...........its too cute. Out of all my birds I believe my quakers are the smartest....... though not the quietest.......I believe any bird that is happy is going to get a little vocal....

If you don't mind small birds, go with a Parrotlet. The aren't as loud as some birds but are very interactive and love to be with their human.

I really do not think you would have a problem with them in an apartment. I really do find their constant calling tiresome, but unless you have really thin walls... they are not terribly loud. I have a Sun and a GCC... both of which I think are louder than the Quakers I have met.

Before I get beat up...
They have WONDERFUL personalities, and of the good 30 or so that I have known only 3 were not big talkers (one lived in a home with a Grey funnily enough!). All were the most devoted little things I had ever seen!

It boils down to different strokes for different folks. My Sun only yells occasionally... but just one Sun screech a day could be too much for some people. I can deal with 5 full minutes a day of screeching rather than have Tiels (which I grew up with and still find charming... in OTHER peoples homes! LOL) or a Quaker squeaking all day. It is all in what you prefer.

That is what is great about parrots... there is one out there to fit just about everyone!
