Quaker questions?

Can all of you Quaker owner's tell me a little bit about your babies? I have decided to add another bird to my flock and the quaker is pretty high on the list. I will probably be visiting the breeder I have bought from before this weekend who has lots of different species, but I thought that I would ask people with quaker experience.

I have been wanting to add a quaker for a some time now. Can you all tell me about them? What are there personalities like? Are they cuddly or more independent birds? Are they pretty playful and like to explore or more docile? How about there noise level - are they pretty loud or not to bad? I know it's pretty hard describing a noise level, but would you say they are louder then an Indian ringneck?

Anything else you can tell me about them would be wonderful. Thanks!!!

I love Quakers

I'm glad to hear that you are interested in quakers! Quakers are very intelligent fun loving birds. They have the intellect of a small child and they also have excellent talking abilities. They are very cuddly but they can also be very feisty and independent. Yes, they are LOUD!!! They love to hear themselves scream. If you get a quaker you need to make sure that it is intellectually stimulated and that you play with it a lot. Quakers are my favorite parrots. I hope you pick a quaker. Good luck!

Talking

Well lets see here..... first of all Quakers are awesome! I have a female green quaker and she is very snuggly but she sometimes likes to just wonder around and check things out by herself without u.... In my opinion she is not very loud, just when she wants out of her cage or to be talked to and then she can be pretty loud and its a constant scream not just one loud one hahahah but thats not too often cuz she is always out climbing all over everything! They are really smart and at first she was pretty stubborn about stuff like...stepping up, but shes not like that now. She is ALWAYS happy i don't think she has ever been in a really bad mood that she hasnt gotten over in like 2 minutes She goes nuts over fruits and vegetables! I dont think theres anything she wont eat and she has been like that from the first week i had her! well... if i think of n e thing else to tell u I'll post again!!
GOOD LUCK & i dont think u can go wrong with a Quaker

I got Tippi my quaker in March of this year, he is adavis' brother, lol. I much prefer his noises to the constant chattering of the kids' parakeet. As far as cuddly, not really at least compared to our 4 month old CAG. He loves to climb all over us and preen us and loves to be handled, just not cuddled unless it's his decision. He is about six months old now and already says quite a few things. Hi, hello, such a good boy, I'm a quaker, and has just learned Peeeeeeeek a booooooo on our camping trip last week and is learning the quaker song. If I ask for a big kiss he will give me a big mmmuuuuaaahhhhh, then I ask for little kisses he gives me tons of little kisses. He does have noisy times but it is not constant, just several times a day when he is practicing talking and will go through his vocab and sing the quaker song about 10 times. He usually only screams if he is startled or if we move too fast and he loses his balance and when we come home if we don't immediately drop what ever we have in our hands and let him out "RIGHT NOW". I am no bird expert but from the off and on research over the last 5-6 years, the quaker was my first choice for my "first parrot" and I am so happy I went with that choice. Then instead of waiting a year we brought home our CAG just last month and they are starting to really like each other, in fact Chicken (the CAG) thinks she is a quaker. She does the wolf whistle then says "I'm a Quaker" which she has learned from Tippi, lol. Good luck and keep us updated on your decision.

I love my Shrek! He is a 20yr old Quaker who was dropped off at the pound when his owners decided to retire to Mexico! He was in a rusty cage, 1 toy and sunflower seeds-he was really obese. Well, all that has changed! He is cuddly with me, not particularly loud, eats EVERYTHING but especially likes greenbeans and blueberries. He's not particularly demanding and is always anxious to please-even when he's not sure what I want,He wolf whistles but he hasn't talked since I got him except to say kissy kissy. He mumbles a lot though so I think he knows more than he is saying, .....

I have both a quaker and an IRN and the quaker by herself is not louder than the IRN. However, and this is a BIG however, my quaker has taken to mimicing my IRN and when she does, she can be just as loud.

The are definitely snuggly, cute and playful. I highly recommend the quaker!
