Happy Hut?

Do your Quakers sleep in a happy hut? Currently, Chaska sleeps on the swing perch that is the highest possible perch in her cage. She tuck's her head under her wing. Would she be more comfy in a happy hut?

Tiki:

Tilde couldn't function well without his hut. He has 3 that I rotate every week or so. Tilde sometimes has very intimate relations with the top of his "humpy hut" (LOL) so you should probably be aware of that as well. I think that they really need a cozy place to sleep.

It's great to provide a cozy place to sleep but one also needs to be aware of any breeding behavoir that might show up, and if it does, the lovely sleeping place must go. Most conures and quakers do enjoy happy huts, tents, or nestboxes to sleep in. Just be carefull with your little girl!

no hut

I think my Quaker might like one, but I am not gonna even give him a chance to be proctective of anything...he is not at all territorial about his house, and I do not want him to like it too much ~and I think he would!!! But he sleeps just fine among the toys with his head snuggled in among them ~ he looks funny:) :)

pickle has a happy hut. i thought he wouldn't like it, but he jumped right in and squawks himself to sleep sometimes. He saves his "intimate relations" for a toy he has half destroyed right outside his front door. The only problem is he likes to chew on the cords that hang it up... After he chewed through both, though, I think he realized he didn't have a happy hut anymore (because I refused to keep fixing it) and he stopped doing it. :) Pretty smart little bugger!!

Tiki

Phoebe doesn't use her hut...she checked it out the day I put it in her cage and after that she had nothing to do with it. I put it in the canary's cage, and they sleep in it...so I guess it depends on the birds preference.

I'd say give it a go, try to fasten it up where she usually sleeps and see if she'll use it.

Both Clyde (Lovebird) and Austin (Quaker) love their tents. I bought the "Daba Doo" tents with the feaux sheep skin lining. They are fully machine washable, which is really important, because my guys poo A LOT in their sleep! Also, the size of the tent in relation to the bird is important. Quakers usually prefer a size 2 tent, although my Austin likes the size 3. But, too small, or too big, and they might not go for it. Good luck!

So far, she won't use it. It has been getting chilly at night here so I was worried she might get cold. I showed her where it was, she backed out of it. She likes to sleep on the swing. LOL she is a bit young for "inimate relations"!

We are making progress, I turned it in my direction so she could see me while sitting in it and she was still in there when I crashed out last night. When I woke up, I checked on her and she was back on the perch but she would have been in there a few hours at least. She looks so cute peeking out of it!

Try & get a pic the next time she is peeking out. All my birds love their happy huts. Dewett the YC nini Macaw is now using hers as a drum and her beak as the sticks. LOL
