Cage aggressive?

Hi, I was wondering about quakers cage aggression. I have kids and I was wondering if this could be a problem. Is cage aggression really really common and is it easy to fix? I wouldn't want the bird to take one of my kids fingers off. Thanks

I keep running into this while reading about quakers. It keeps me being worried. :) Anyone ever experienced this or should I not even be worried about it.

Hi there
we have a quaker (10 months old) who was handfed. she is great with my five year old (let's him do anything to her) but hates my two year old:( Always tried to bite him (and has connected many times - has never drawn blood, just hard pinching). she is more possessive around her cage, but it is not problematic. we don't encourage other people to take her off her cage as she will lunge at them (and would bite) but if you step a few feet away she is much more relaxed (most of the time).

We (the family except the two year old) can all stick our hands in her cage, clean it, change food out and it etc without a problem.

hth

Thanks :) Yeah I have friends with lots of breeds of birds but I know no one with a quaker. I actually decided to go a different direction with the new bird Iw as looking into getting. I went with a tiel for their gentle nature and I think they are just the best kid birds :)

Quakers are sweet, loving little birds, but it's in their nature to be cage aggressive. Once they are out of their cage they are wonderfull. At least thats been my experience with them.

YEP my little girl is 6 months old and is very cage aggressive to anyone but my daughter Taylor. Taylor hand fed her and has a forever bond with her. When she's off or away from her cage she is the sweetest little girl.. I love how she snuggles in my hair. I don't get that with my greys..

I completely agree with everyone regarding cage aggressiveness with quakers. I too have a quaker and he is sometimes aggressive when he is inside his cage. Sometimes he will attack when I am changing his water and food bowls. But once he is out of his cage he is such a sweet and cuddly little spoiled brat.

it is in their nature, if you do the handling inside the cage and make sure you watch your children it'd be ok.

My boy is 3 and has barely any cage aggression, he's more shy than aggressive. He usually just hides when we go in there. When he's out he's good and he's good with our 4 year old and is usually good with our 2 year old when we are there to interfer when our 2 year old gets a little overexcited.
