My quaker is bleeding...

My quaker has recently started bleeding in the area of his back tail feathers...and it may be coming out of his/her anus. I'm really scared and don't know if it is serious or not. Please help.

If you can't find the source, please take her to an avian vet ASAP. Birds can bleed out very quickly. If you don't have a vet, please post your location, or PM a mod, and we may be able to help you find one.

Hope your little one is better soon.

if it is a blood feather (you should see a broken feather shaft, which is the source of the blood), then you could attempt to pull it if you feel comfortable to do so and if you have a second person around.
otherwise (if you can't find the source of the blood, or if you don't feel comfortable pulling a blood feather, or if you don't have another person around) get him to the vet AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
good luck - hope all turns out well

I believe it ended up being a blood feather. He did fly to the ground earlier yesterday, so maybe a feather kind of broke off when he did that.

If it happens again, is it best to pull the blood feather out?

Yes and use some corn starch if the hole doesnt close up within an hour or so. DO NOT use syptic powder on the skin as it will burn the skin. Once you pull the feather, that area will swell up and there will be an obvious hole where the tail feather was.
