Nervous quaker

My quaker seems to just be very nervous... especially when he hears paper or plastic bags he will fly right off his cage. What can i do to make him less nervous?

Also, what birds live well in the same cages as quakers?

My quaker dosen't really like any other birds he is so bonded to me that he is very jealous, of all the quakers I know they are all chickens, bubba is scared of everything unless I am holding it first we have to place toys outside the cage far away from his perches for a day or two so he will go near them. Just keep exposing him to the things he is afraid of while you are holding him and keep reassuring him that it's okay, I have always done this and now when bubba is afraid of something he will whisper bubba's okay or its okay chicken!

Charlie is a little nervous about new things but after he sees it's ok he is ok. As for putting another bird in the same cage as your quaker I have always heard let them have their own. I have a yellow-sided conure that Charlie doesn't mind visiting his cage for the day but when it comes to bedtime he wants his castle to himself.

My blue quaker would not like another bird in her cage, she doesn't like me bothering her cage. She is so funny, nipped me the other night and then said "that's not nice". I'd let her bit me again just to get her to say that.

CharlieandMom - That's funny....my nickname is "Pebbles" because I put my hair up like the cartoon character when I play softball. And I have a Jenday Conure....lol Anyway, I also have a Blue Quaker and she is aptly named Sassy. She likes the Jenday to visit her on her cage, but she gets very possessive of him and I have a hard time taking him off her cage to put him back in his own. After a while she gets mean and bites him too, so I have to remove him from her cage. When she's on me, she's a little angel. But if he comes to me at the same time, she wants to peck my eyes out. Mr. Matt008, I would not put any other birds in with your quaker on a permanent basis. They are very territorial and could injure or kill the other bird, or vice versa. But I am a kind of newby bird owner, so you might want to get more opinions than mine. Good luck!

My blue quaker Ola is housed with our meyers Piper in a very large cage. We had the meyers first and it took them about a week to establish order, which took work and supervision and now they live in harmony. Occasionally Piper will chase Ola out of her happy hut, Ola likes to head to bed early and Piper get bored!! They are not at the point of physical interaction, but they talk and call out to each other, mimic each other, tug on toys together and seem to enjoy the company.
