When do quakers start talking? Do they ever stop learning to talk?

We may be adopting a green quaker this weekend and the breeder said that he does say some words, mainly "hello" but he said he had to be extremely comfortable before he spoke.

I know our old foster amazon within the first couple days he was already trying to mimick our whistling, but never spoke. Ofcourse the day he went to his new home he started barking like a dog and he would whistle like how we whistled when we called the dogs in and than he started mimicking the noise of the nearby trains (go figure). Will a quaker be the same or do they require more time?

Also I read that birds like an african grey usually don't start talking until they are like 1 year old and older while other species start as babies. When do quakers usually start talking and when do they sort of taper off and decided they don't want to learn anything new (or do they ever stop)?

I am going into the adoption expecting him NOT to ever utter a single word ever in his lifetime buut was just curious what to expect on talking, and learning incase he does.

Ours was "mimicking" things before he was one year old. He is not a great talker, but he learns whistles and noises very quickly.

so they are better at whistling and noises? I heard that if you want them to talk that you should teach them to talk before whistling or they won't want to talk.

It really depends upon the individual bird, and that means some are good talkers and some are not. Just give it some time and you well find out, good luck!

Hi, i have a quaker named elmo who is an excellent talker. When i first got him at 10 weeks old he was already saying hello. Now he will be 5 years old in may and continues to learn new words. He says several different words and phrases. He also laughs, cries, barks, meows and talks in 3 different voices. It is so funny to listen to him talking. Quakers are eager to please you so if/when he does talk give him lots of praise.

When we brought our quaker home she was three months and could say hello. Shortly after being at our home she learned to say 'step-up', but seemed to forget how to say hello. Fast forward a few months (she is now nine months old) she can say (and does) hello, hello Lucy, step up and be a good bird. Her 'voice' isn't super clear so it's sometimes hard to hear what she is saying......I hope she continues to learn it's adorable!

Bobbie started talking right around 4 months...and continues to amaze me with the things she picks up.
