You should probably wait another year or two before trying to breed Chela and Chico... Chela is too young to breed right now and if you try to breed her too soon she could have problems with egg laying, and raising of chicks... You can't expect these two to love eachother good enough to breed, either.
Anyway, good luck!

Well, I purchased Chela when she was 8 months and that was about 6 months ago. So, that would make Chela 1year & 3 months. The breeder I bought her from said I could breed her at a year. Are you saying, 2 years? Not like it really matters because nothing is happening anyway. I did read yesterday that your suppose to place a 16 guage 12" x 12" wire mesh cage with a 4" in diameter whole, in their big cage. Then your suppose to place stems and untreated wood chips and things like that in their cage so they can weave their own nesting box. Well, at least thats what I understood. Do you have any insite on that? I also read that your suppose to feed then calcium and pellets and not seed. I feed mine 1 bowl of seed and 1 bowl of mixed vegetables. I give them snacks like wheat bread crust, corn tortillas, spanish rice, popcorn, vermicilli and pretty much any pasta or vegetable dish we have around here. Chico loves popcorn. Does what you feed them, make a difference in how well they breed? Chico is going to be mad if I take all his snacks away. He screams the minute I place popcorn in the microwave as if telling me, not forget about him.

As long as they both get fruits and veggies (or atleast veggies) daily, along with other nutritious foods, then it sounds like they have a good diet! Quakers usually prefer to build their own nest, unlike other parrots, they build nests with sticks and the like, creating a little cavity to hide their chicks in. Feeding them a healthy diet ensures that the chicks grow up even healthier and that they all will live longer lives.
I suggested that you wait till Chela is atleast around 2 years old so as to ensure that her body is in better condition. Quakers can raise chicks when they are a year old, or even younger, however, they are usually not fully grown yet, and sometimes, their bodies are not ready to produce eggs. If their bodies are not quite ready to reproduce, then it can cause problems for her, or even the chicks. If you are sure that Chela is a female, and Chico is a male, and you would like to breed the two, from the sounds of it, it'll be a while anyway, and you should not plan on breeding anytime soon as these two have not formed a good bond yet. You can check out http://www.centralpets.com/pages/cri.../PRT5728.shtml http://www.bluequaker.com/Art-009.htm Or do a Google search, or on any other search engine (Yahoo, Excite, Alta Vista, etc), and search for "Breeding Quakers" "Quaker Nests" anything having to do with quakers... Good Luck!

Could you please post pictures of the blue female? Noone in this area has the blue ones and I think they are just beautiful. that is what I wanted but could not find one. I bet those chicks will be absolutly stunning. I hope they mate soon so I can see the chicks. My quaker was a stray 3 year old that was rescued from an elderly ladies home. She is the darker green with grey but I forgot what they call it. I love her she is the most fasinating bird ever.

Yea, their my babies. I have so much fun with them. Im so happy we finally finished up their aviary. Their living quarters is 12ft by 6ft with 10 ft. ceilings. We even poured a concrete slab on the floor, so all I do is wash it off with a hose every morning. Its pretty cool. They absolutely love it. I hope that one day they will have babies but Im not really pushing the issue. It it happens, it happens. If not, oh well. I think I have done everything Im suppose to do.

I just love their little sweet faces...that's why, as big of a brat that mine has a tendency to be, I can NEVER stay angry with him, no matter what he does!
Wish I knew more about breeding them to help you out, but I just like their company as companions.
