New Quaker doesn't want me to leave the room

So it's a little past 11 I finally cage the new boy up for the night and I left the room to get some water. As soon as he saw me leave he started squawking and squawking and didn't stop until I came back in. Even with my husband standing there he didn't stop until I came back. He did it a couple times as I left. I don't know if maybe he's not used to the cage or what but he seemed anxious to go in the cage and started eating but as soon as I left he threw a fit.

Is he maybe upset I left or just nervous about the new cage/surroundings? If it's because I left what can I do? I don't want to baby him so he thinks it's ok to do that.

Try a contact word. Something you can stand cause he well learn it. Also when you leave the room start saying some thing you only say then. Ill be right back well work too.
Or when it time for bed say Nite Nite or something a few times then ignore it. And you can say that ever night.
He well get use to your schedule and should stop when he feels secure in the knowledge you are not leaving him forever.
Good Luck

well after the lights went off and he was covered he did quiet down (are you suppose to cover their cages I don't know I did for my tiels and amazon but don't know if they all have to be covered just a force of habit from the little keets we had when I was a kid).

Whenever he does something that we don't like we tell him "bad boy" (like when he nips or squawks uncontrollably) when he does something good we say "good boy" in a very happy upbeat voice which he really likes (like when he steps up or he lets us snuggle or he seems to be imitating us). Is this appropriate to do? I think he likes hearing us say bad boy though but it gets him to stop and he'll lower his head to be pet.
