Question Amazon and a quaker?

Hey guys as some of you may now I'll be getting a double yellow headed amazon... I was wondering if anyone has experienced the two getting along? I figured instead of turning to books leaving my head spinning and not getting s straight answer I'd ask actual people! LOL

I think quakers are so cute and I researched them before amazons... but amazons have been my favorite, otherwise I'd be getting a quaker. A amazon showed up and I couldn't resist.
I was wondering how they would react together. My amazon WILL be out all day so they'd have to get along. How do you go about introducing the two? I don't want them to be freaked out or scare them. I know size difference is a major thing.

I was also wondering how two parrots are together? Say they do like each other... will they stop paying attention to me? I've never really talked to anyone who has owned parrots, I just read the books. So I think it's a lot better to speak to someone with experience then to read the novels. LOL.

Thanks guys!

Our amazon bonded to our quaker right away, even going so far as regurgitating for her. I'm not sure why and was pretty mind boggled over it. We keep them separated because we fear the zon will hurt the quaker. Just be cautions.

That's cute!

So you think that putting them in the same cage would be a bad idea? That's what I'm really questioning. And would this have any affect on them liking me? Would they pay less attention to me if they had a friend? Because the quaker would be coming after the amazon of course... I'm just wondering how that works with other parrots in the room?
Hopefully you get what I mean.

I would never recommend keeping a larger bird with a smaller bird. Amazons have powerful beaks that would kill a Quaker in a second. While they may interact ok under your supervision I would never leave them together unsupervised.

Would it be ok if they are under supervision and they both have their own cage. I was quite nervous so I figured I'd ask... If it's really too risky I won't get a quaker.

With that much of a size (and beak!) difference, you do run the risk of injury to the smaller bird. I wouldn't advise ever keeping them together. As far as out time, you will have to closely supervise in a neutral area (not on either one's cage) to see how they get along.

Ok... sounds like a big risk. I just love quakers so I was hoping...
I don't want the quaker to hurt so I guess I'll just stick to the zon...

Thanks guys!

If you want a Quaker, no one is saying you can't get one. You just have to be responsible about it. :)

I really want a quaker... But I can't really get one if it's too dangerous. I don't want the quaker caged up all the time. Because my amazon is going to be out all the time.

I just LOVE quakers but since you guys say it's a big risk I'm not going to take that chance you know? That's all I need...

I'd really like a quaker... I wanted a quaker and researched them before I even thought about an amazon then once I started reading more and more about the amazons I wanted an amazon but a quaker was just right under it. It's something about them that I love. So an amazon showed up last week and I couldn't resist emailing them. And so I'm getting him this weekend. But I still have my eyes on the quakers.

What do you guys think? Amanda how did you introduce your guys and did you get them at the same time? Who came first, ect ect.
