New baby & cage

Ive got a question. I am looking for a weaned quaker baby right now and I have a question about cages. I have a cage now that I will be using for it. It measures 24x24 by 30 high with a dome top. Is a newly weaned baby to small for this size cage right now ? I really do not want to have to buy a new one.

New Baby and Cage

A good rule of thumb on a cage is at least twice the wing span but this one sounds like a good size. You just need to be careful on the bar spacking. A 1" bar spacing is too wide for a Quaker.

That size cage should be fine for your quaker. Just make sure the bar spacing isn't too big. Our quaker is in a cage a little bit smaller than that and he has been in it since we got him which was at the age of 4 weeks so we had to finish weaning him and he did fine so you should be OK. Hope this helps.

Claiming it

Your Quaker will quickly claim the entire cage so don't worry about it being to big, he will explore all of it. I took home my quaker when it was fully weaned and he really didn't get much bigger....just fatter. He is a chunker...it's probably just his feathers thought right??? he he

Good luck getting a little green monster, or maybe blue?? What color are you looking for?? Mine is green, and in the sun he is like irridescant (speling error).

Pleae send pics when you get him/her. I don't know if mine is a girl or boy, but his name is Mejo (baby boy). he he

If you put a newly weaned baby in the cage I would pad the bottom with newspaper to help cushion any falls. babies can be clumsy and are known for breaking feathers. I always pad my babies cages until I know they are surefooted enough not to fall off a perch.

Chaska's cage is also 5/8 inch spacing, its fine. She can't get her head through the bars.
