Quakers are usually feisty clowns, no matter the sex. I say this 'usually' as cherry head conures are known to be pranksters and somewhat clownish, where-as my cherry head I can hardly even call a bird!
With males you wouldn't have to worry about egg binding and that sorts of thing, but overall, I don't think it matters too much on the sex.

Sex of bird?
Well with ours we call it a him! but we don't really know because be have never had DNA sexing done. Since we don't plan to breed we don't really care. I am not really sure that it matters. Ours talks up a storm and is very funny. The only bird in flock that I know the sex of is the RB2 and that is because the vet told me it was a female (something to do with the eyes). We think our tiel is male because of his dark patches on his face but can't swear by it. No matter the sex they all get ornary at different times of the year so you just get used to it and relize that its hormones LOL. Hope this helps.

Mine is a girl and she is the sweetest, cuddliest little girl too. With Quakers, both sexes have ability to talk, it's more up to the individual bird. Chaska is already starting to imitate my laugh (she is next to me when I am chatting in MSN). She makes vocal noises, I think she will eventually talk, she's only 5 month old now.

Dino, most cockatiels are easy to sex visually or by personality/behavoir. Other birds may be easy to sex behavoir wise but then again some birds just don't show signs of being either sex so thats when DNA sexing comes in handy! Male cockatiels usually have clear bright faces however (usually a bright yellow face with an orange patch) or a clear white face. Females will usually have a mottled greyish face (background color may be the yellow face with orange cheek patches or the clear white under the grey), however when it comes to mutations, it can become a bit tricker, such as my female tiel, who by her head alone looks like a male, though from various reasons I can tell that she is 100% female.

Monica I have a male pied tiel. No DNA test needed for him. He was talking at 4 months old. When you say hi Chopper he will say hi chopper chopper chopper. He does so many whistles. He is practicing a song now. Been working on it for a few days. I havent figured out what it is yet. LOL

I know of a cockatiel (recently found, but to say the least, I'm afraid for it) thats pied (i.e. clear flights, large spot on its lower back, a couple clear feathers, and a spot that is attached to the face mask though is not very big). It appears to be a male, however, I believe this bird is a female (tiny grey dots on a yellow face, not noticeable unless you actually look and study, most tail feathers are striped both sides, and on a few of the flight feathers, there are a few dots).
However, I know its possible for males and females to take on rolls from eachother, such as females who sing or even talk just as well as males, and some males who go into the female position for breeding. I don't doubt that your bird is a male, its just that sometimes it can become confusing!

I have a female and I know she is as she has layed eggs. I love her to pieces and I know she loves me too. She says all kinds of things and whistles up a storm. My friend has a boy and he is also affectionate. I don't really think it matters with quakers they are all loveable and either sex can talk as good as the other. A quaker of any sex would be my bird of choice. They are just tooooo cute. And what clowns. everyone should have one.
